Harriet glanced at her and her frown deepened. Davina lowered her head as she thought of something.
Seeing she was nonchalant, Harriet raised her hands and did some spells. When she withdrew her hands, the door was pushed open and a Caucasian man walked in.
Harriet was dying from rage. He even dared to pick on her lock! Such fearlessness! However, she kept her anger in check and watched the man silently.
She had hidden the souls in the room with a spell. Even if someone was standing right in front of the werecat, he would have no idea.
However, if one made a sound, the spell would weaken and the man, if he was strong, would be able to sniff them out.
The man walked inside fully, but didn't shut the door. He used something to wedge it to prevent it from slamming shut on its own.
He walked forward and examined the place with raised brow. "I thought you said she'd be somewhere around?"
"I said in this area, but I had no idea of the particular house. we checked three houses, apparently, there's no one in here, we can just return back." His cat replied.
Davina looked up at that moment and caught his eyes. He had looked at the direction they were, but didn't notice them as they were hidden from his train of sight.
Seconds later, he nodded and walked out of the house. Harriet didn't take off the spell immediately as she waited for the man to be far off.
After she was sure he was gone, she reversed everything. Then glanced at Davina with a solemn expression. "I get it. He's strong and daring. I felt the murderous air around him. Compared to you, he's way more stronger."
"Exactly!" Davina smirked. "But my dad doesn't care about that. He's so selfish! He only cares about himself! Let's say I'm hurt, he'd only blame the moon goddess for her inability to save me. While he'd have no idea it's all his fault!"
Harriet sighed and got up. She walked into a corridor and emerged minutes later with a shiny, black, circular stone.
"Here." She said, tossing it to Davina. "Wear it all the time. It'd help in strengthening you for the meantime."
Davina took it and examined it for a while, then she took off the silver necklace on her neck and inserted the stone as a pendant before putting it back on.
"Thanks for this, Harriet." She smiled. She stayed a little while longer drinking an additional two bottles of alcoholic wine.
Immediately afterward, she fell asleep on the couch. Near evening, her phone kept ringing in her pocket, but because she was exhausted and deep in slumber, she heard no sound and only continued sleeping.
Harriet walked out and heard the phone ringing. Without warning, she slipped her hand into the latter's pocket and drew out her phone.
"What's wrong with you, Davina?! I've been trying to reach you the entire day! Damn it! Give me your location, I'll come pick you up!" Tabitha's enraged voice came from the other end.
Harriet chuckled. "This isn't Davina. At the moment, she's asleep in my place. I don't think there's a need to come pick her up. If she insists on leaving when she wakes up, I'll take her home. If she doesn't, my house has many rooms."
Tabitha said nothing for a while as she was seething with rage. "Go to hell!"
The call ended with a beep and Harriet knew had hung up. Tabitha's anger was getting worse as the days went by.
She turned to place the phone on the table, but met with Davina's open eyes. "How long have you been awake?"
"Half an hour." Davina shrugged.
"So you heard your phone ringing?"
"Obviously." The latter replied and got up from the chair. She grabbed her phone and sauntered towards the door. "I'd be taking my leave now. See you later Harriet."
"The last time you said this, you disappeared for two years."
The corners of Davina's lips spasmed as she corrected. "Three actually."
"Whatever, go away. Good night." Harriet sighed and looked to the other side.
Davina walked up to her and gave her a tight hug before leaving the apartment. She suppressed her aura and blended with the night.
Even the werecat who had been lurking around the place didn't notice when she left. He stomped his feet and glared at his cat. "It was a total waste of time!"
"Fine! It's impossible to catch her because she's becoming way too careful. Focus on the ritual so we can get out of here."
The werecat nodded. But he had a problem. He wasn't chasing Davina for nothing. The lady was really interrupting his plans. Not only could he not do his ritual in peace, but the lady was becoming more and more daring as almost all the suitable candidates: Family of four, were out of town.
"Let's just scout and see if we can find any. You'd be skinned raw by boss if you don't."
.....
Jackson Franco's Villa
Beside him was his right hand man who seemed nervous about a news. Jackson, who was playing chess all alone, glanced up at him and probed. "You have something to tell me?"
"Davina Luc and Dave McCallum almost got killed today." The butler muttered.
There was no change in Jackson's expression as he continued playing. Seconds later, be asked. "Ok, what does that have to do with me?"
"I looked into them. Dave is just a weak detective. Except his brains, he has nothing else to offer. Davina on the other hand, just graduated from the academy and was sent to the station here in New York." The butler sighed.
Jackson finally stopped playing. He lifted his head and flashed a toothy smile at his butler. "I know what I'm doing. And I know I'm not incurring any loss, I'd instead gain a lot from them."
The butler no longer said anything. If the boss was well aware of all those things, it could only mean one thing. There was really a use for the duo.
