Tabitha stopped before the station and glanced around. Not seeing the desired target, she sighed and stared at Davina who was leaving the car.
"Say, does the boy arrive late?" No sooner had the words left her mouth did someone walk towards them.
Tabitha stared at him with raised brow. Seeing the disinterested look on Davina's face, she instantly knew the boy wasn't that important to Davina.
"You have a friend already." She said, taking her eyes off the man.
Davina made a face and, disregarding the presence of Jonas, replied. "He's not my friend."
Tabitha clicked her tongue. "Too bad. I'll pick you up after work."
"You don't need to do so." Davina said but Tabitha placed a foot on her accelerator and drove away.
Davina turned and stared at Jonas with a conflicted expression. "What do you want?"
"I came to help you and also apologize." The man said embarrassingly.
Davina raised a brow. "Apologize? What for?"
"I found out some people bullied you, so I'm soliciting on their behalf." Jonas said, coughing out slightly.
Davina threw a disgruntled look at him before quickening her step. However, the man caught up with her. "I don't need your apology neither do I have any forgiveness to give."
Jonas' expression became grim. "What do I have to do for you to forgive them and...me?"
Davina's eyes dilated as she thought of something. "Is this a bet or something?"
Jonas scratched his head, completely at a loss at what to reply.
"I'm really sorry and apologizing for them. Look, I can..." He tried to say but halted as she distanced herself from him.
"You're really weird. Let's stay in our lanes, please." After saying this, Davina walked into the station.
Almost immediately, Dave's car pulled over at the parking lot and a thought suddenly occurred to Jonas.
With a grin, he walked towards the car, startling the man who looked up to see his enemy.
"You're here, I've been eating for you." Jonas smiled. This smile seemed to creep Dave out as he took a step towards his car again.
However, Jonas saw this on time and grabbed his arm, then drew him out gently. "I have something to ask of you."
Dave, who didn't dare disagree, nodded. Jonas lowered his lips and whispered something into his ears.
Dave narrowed his eyes but nonetheless nodded. Only then did Jonas let go of him and patted his shoulders.
Davina, on her part, had walked towards her table to see some files on it. Apprehensively, she took it up and read the words on it.
After confirming it was hers, she pulled her chair closer and sat on it, then fixed her eyes on one of the papers.
Midway, someone walked towards her table. Davina wasn't great friends with everyone and only had Dave as a friend, so subconsciously, she had taken the person to be Dave. Until she heard an angry voice.
"Don't you know how to treat your seniors!" A shrill, female voice rang out in her ears.
Davina frowned and took her eyes off the paper. It landed on a blonde who had a furious look on her face.
Unlike her, she wasn't putting on the uniform but a black suit and a tag on her left breast pocket.
"I'm sorry. It didn't occur to me that you were referring to me." Davina said after seconds of deliberating on what to say.
Davina stared at the woman's name tag and made out the words, Isabella White.
Isabella stared at Davina with pursed lips. She had been sent to another branch with Jonas and only just returned to receive news of a female in the station!
She had been enjoying the glory and praise of being the only female in the station only to get back to see Davina!
"Do you realize I can get you punished for this?!" Isabella yelled, staring at the confused Davina.
Davina racked her brain trying to think of where she went wrong but couldn't come up with anything.
"Isabella is angry! Finally, someone to put her in her place!"
"It's really annoying how Davina acts so lofty before everyone. Unfortunately for her, she had disrespected the wrong person."
"It's not really her fault. I doubt she was told about the ranking and the respect that should be awarded to them."
"So what? As someone with a good upbringing and manners, she should know to treat people with respect!"
"I noticed she's a quiet person and likes to be alone. Don't you think your attacks are kinda personal?"
"If you have nothing important to say, shut your mouth and watch her get disciplined!"
Although they were whispering, their voices were still loud enough for Davina and Isabella to hear.
Davina merely shook her head not believing men could gossip the way they were doing. Her ears caught the word 'ranking' and she paused.
Subconsciously, her eyes darted to the woman's name tag and atop it was a small marking of '7'.
Slowly, she bent over and stared at her own name tag. Her lips twitched at the sight of the '1'. So low!
Before Isabella could come up with more words, the door opened and Jonas and Dave walked in.
Yet again, everyone was in for some juicy gossip as Jonas had his arm round Dave's neck.
Jonas had always bullied Dave for reasons best known to him and everyone had come to the conclusion, the duo could never reconcile.
Jonas, who had a bright smile on his face, frowned deeply seeing the situation. He retracted his hand and walked forward.
Isabella instantly put on an aggrieved expression as he walked closer. "This new recruit doesn't know her elders! Even at a time like this she's still seated."
Jonas glanced at Davina. He had spent a few minutes with Dave and the man had told him all he knew about her. One of them was, she'd smile when upset.
He glanced at Isabella and placed a hand on her shoulder. "Davina is new here and the rule hasn't been explained to her. It's the fault of the station if she disrespected you."
Isabella widened her eyes as she listened to him. Her expression which had been smug earlier, became ghastly.
She peeked at Jonas with a frown. Normally, the man would get upset and report to the Supervisor. What was going on?
Just then, her eyes shot towards Davina's pretty face.
"What is a weakling like her even doing here?" Isabella retorted, gritting her teeth.
Jonas frowned guessing where the conversation was headed to. Just before he could stop her, he heard her say. "You must've found your way in her through dubious means!"
Dave, who was near the door, inhaled a sharp breath. His eyes quickly darted towards Davina who now had a smile on her face but a vicious look in her eyes.
"You can say every other bad thing you can think of to me, but I get really pissed off when people say that." Davina chuckled.
Jonas who stood beside Isabella wanted to warn the other lady when he heard her say. "Is that your way of instilling fear in people? Pathetic!"
Davina's smile became colder. However, before she could say anything else, her phone rang. Without excusing them, she took it and answered it then replied with three yes(es) before hanging up.
Davina leaned forward and said. "Miss White, are you trying to insinuate something? Or perhaps... proposing something?"
Isabella sneered. Not only was the latter acting like a confident person, but she was also being foolish.
"You said it yourself." Isabella snorted and dropped a file on the table. "I was told to give you this. And also, to remind you your time is ticking... quickly."
After saying that, she turned and walked away.
Dave made his way towards Jonas after she was gone and temporarily putting away his dear for him, asked. "We need to help Davina! We both know how strong Isabella is. It'll be disastrous if her fist connects with Davina's face!"
Jonas turned and stared at Dave. "Worry about yourself." After saying that, he patted his shoulders and walked away.
Although everyone's attention had returned to their previous work, some people still had eyes on Dave and Jonas.
The mystical creatures in the room who heard the whole conversation even without trying, shook their heads and continued with their works, feigning ignorance.
"You have no idea what you just did!" Dave yelled with a low voice after taking a seat before her.
Davina stared at her with raised brow. "What did I do?"
"You actually agreed to have a duel with her! Do you have any idea who she is? For a station which has only her as the only female before your arrival, do you think her position and strength is that simple." Dave huffed.
Davina on the other hand had her eyes lowered onto the paper Isabella dropped. Seeing he had stopped talking, she raised her eyes and commented. "You talk too much."
