Davina opened her eyes to the sight of Tabitha seated before her vanity table, applying make-up.
"You, do you ever sleep?" She muttered, rubbing her eyes with a yawn leaving her mouth.
Tabitha stared at her from the table and chuckled. "My vampire system normally doesn't let me. But I do force myself to do so at times."
Davina's eyes flashed as she thought of something. "I'm that case, would you mind if I stay around for a couple for days?"
Tabitha shrugged. "Sure. The house is always open but next time, try to call me. You made my security seem useless."
Davina chuckled and raised both hands in surrender. "I'm sorry about that. Just couldn't see myself knocking on the gate and getting caught by that time of the night."
After she finished talking, her eyes came in contact with the wall clock and she let out a shrill scream.
Even though it didn't startle Tabitha who was in the same room with her, the workers downstairs were obviously fazed by it. What was more puzzling was the fact they hadn't seen anyone walk in, and the scream sounded nothing like Tabitha's.
"You're scaring my workers." Tabitha smiled mischievously.
Davina's eyes darted to her as she thought of something. "Don't tell me you did this on purpose?!"
"Did what?" Tabitha asked, but because she was applying lip gloss, her voice came out low.
"I always set an alarm so I can wake up early to prepare for work! Don't tell me you removed it, Tabitha!"
Tabitha listened to her words without feeling even a speck of guilt. "Do you have any idea when you came here? I needed you to have a lot of energy and a good night's rest. Unfortunately, my efforts were wasted."
Her words sounded aggrieved but in fact, she had a broad smile when she said those words.
"Be human!" Davina yelled and jumped out of bed. She glanced at the bed and touched it again. It was so soft and bouncy. No wonder she had such a smooth rest?
Davina was already in the bathroom so she didn't pay any attention to what Tabitha said.
She rushed out five minutes later to see Tabitha still applying makeup on her vanity table.
"Does being a boss make one so lazy?" She asked with pursed lips. She knew Tabitha was just trying to rub it in her face.
"You should try it some time." Tabitha replied putting down the brush in her hand.
She watched Davina stand in a daze after rushing to the wardrobe before she wailed. "You won't believe this, Tabitha?"
Tabitha raised a brow and asked leisurely. "Believe what?"
"My uniform is still at my place. Damn it!" The lady cussed.
Tabitha tsked. "What's so great about being in the police academy?"
Davina stopped her fake sobbing and retorted. "I don't know about others, but I always have this sense of accomplishment after I've done something great."
"Oh, that's how it is." Tabitha muttered nonchalantly. "But guess what? I also get the same feeling whenever I look at my bank account balance."
Davina whipped her head around to look at her. "Is your bank account that impressive?"
"Seeing is believing, for now, I'll just leave you to keep guessing." Tabitha replied and got up. Before she walked out of the room, she said.
"Check the left side of the drawer."
Hearing those words, a ray of light appeared in Davina's already darkened eyes. Perceptively, she got up and strolled to the locker.
Her eyes darted to the last rack and her eyes gleamed with delight. There was her uniform, carefully ironed, meticulously folded and neatly sitting alone.
She grabbed it and changed into it. She walked to the large mirror in the room and turned around. Satisfied by the sight she saw, she slid her hands into her pockets and walked towards the door.
She took out one of them and opened the door. When she stepped into the living room, the workers curious gaze was satisfied.
"Hey Ella." Davina chuckled, walking towards the older lady.
Ella instinctively took a step backward to avoid dirtying Davina. The latter, seeing it, stopped and smiled faintly. "I'll see you when I get back."
"Good morning Miss Davina." Realizing her action and the retreating figure of Davina, Ella shouted behind her.
Davina didn't stop but she did wave at her before making her way to the dining room.
She glanced at her time and breathed out a sigh of relief seeing toasted bread on the table along with sweetened tea. She grabbed it immediately and walked out not realizing they were directly in front of Tabitha.
"Don't you think I need an apology?" Tabitha asked but got no reply. She glanced behind her to see the latter was already out of the dining room.
She threw a look at the cook standing beside her before getting onto her feet, then grabbed the car keys on the table and walked out.
She stopped beside Davina who stood in front of the house trying to finish the breakfast in her hand.
"Be careful not to get indigestion." Tabitha subtly reminded before making her way to a silver Maserati.
Seeing the car, the corners of Davina's lips twitched slightly. "Why be so flashy?"
"Do you have a problem with me spending my money?" Tabitha snorted, starting the car.
Davina narrowed her eyes and took a big gulp from the cup in her hand. Once again, she had rubbed it in her face!
"I've been thinking, I can be your bodyguard if you're interested. But it'd come with a price." Davina said, throwing the cup away after finishing its content.
Although she was poor at the moment and had lived a meager life with Tabitha for two years, she was still spoiled.
"Is this you trying to rob me of my money while trying to make it legal?" Tabitha asked with a smug face.
Davina was speechless. This lady knew her way too much!
