Trying To Regain Face

The werecat jumped back immediately. The gold had almost touched him. His expression turned grim as he stared at the lady before him. "I thought cops are supposed to be upright? What's it with you trying to win a battle with such evil means?" The man sneered, maintaining his distance. Davina chuckled darkly. The gold which was in its pure form was rough to touch and dull to look at but at that moment, she stared at it with kindness, after all, it had saved her life. "Not all cops are upright. What do you mean by me trying to win a battle using evil means?" She replied pretending to be clueless. The man stared at Davina for a few seconds before smiling coldly. "Dear female cop, just you wait for me! I will be right back to finish this conversation!" Seeing no.need for him to hang around any longer, he moved backward and ran out but not forgetting to throw an angry glare at her. Davina still stood in place, she was about moving back to one of the rooms when she heard a shriek behind her. "What do you think you're doing?!" Without turning.around to look at the person, she already knew it was Dave. "The Intruder is gone, it's only logical we continue our investigation." Dave looked at her stiffly. Why was she not scared? He had been expecting to meet a cry baby when he returned. With a sigh, he nodded. This was because he still wanted to.hold his head up high and not be looked down on by her. However, he clung tightly to Davina the rest of the time like a second skin. After thirty minutes, the.lady pulled him away from.her body. "I'm done, let's head back to the office." Hearing her words, a smile graced his frightened face and he obediently walked out with her. They got into Dave's car and sped out. Only after they had gone a long distance did the man heave a sigh of relief. After getting a grip on his emotions, he glanced at Davina and said. "That man is lucky he left earlier, otherwise, I'd have slammed his face against a wall." Davina resisted the urge to yawn as she smiled at the man who still wanted to maintain face. Seeing her look, the man looked back at her. "Hey, I didn't leave you. I only noticed when I was outside that you were still in. So I decided to go back in and save you." Davina had many things through her head, so she kept nodding to whatever the man said. Soon, they dropped by.by the station and Davina got down and walked hastily towards the entrance. Dave stayed in the car feeling humiliated. But when he recalled she believed him, he smiled and got down from the car. Unfortunately, he met with someone he disliked. "Look who we have here." A voice rang out in mockery. It was the voice of Jonas Abney, son of the DPO and someone who detested Dave with passion. Jonas had gone abroad to take care of a case. Upon returning, he heard from his father, the new transfer detective, challenged. As a good son, he decided to.get to the end of the matter. He had waited for the duo for hours to arrive at the parking lot. Davina scurried into the office once the car stopped by the ever foolish Dave, stayed behind. He wasn't planning to attack Davina just yet but Dave seemed like a suitable prey. "What do you want?" Dave asked, taking a step back. Jonas shrugged. Although Dave was exceptionally weak and an eyesore to him, he knew how to use his brain when solving cases. "Nothing, just missed my boy." Jonas laughed wickedly. Before Dave could make a move, the man outstretched his hand and grabbed him by the shirt. "I just told i.missed you and you wanna run? How heartless!" "Don't forget there are cameras around. There's no way you can get away with it this time!" Dave sneered. For years, he had been bullied by this man. And everytime, the DPO would disregard it and say it was a squabble between two grown-ups, so it didn't matter to him. Jonas curled up his lips and stared mockingly at Dave. "My dad is in charge and those surveillance operators knows that, what do you think is likely to happen if they come across this scene?" "Turn a blind eye to it." Dave reported lowering his head. "Oh, you're not so...." Jonas trailed off as his eyes caught a figure walking towards them with.her head lowered onto her file. She looked up and her eyes clashed with that of Jonas. She paused seeing the position they were in. She was instantly amused but refused to act like she understood. She walked towards them with a raised brow. "Are you okay, Dave?" Dave wanted to say something but Jonas' foot slammed down on his and he couldn't help but whimper. Unfortunately, he couldn't cry out. The more Davina looked at him, the more she felt amused. The man who always acted aloof and strong is being bullied? If she knew such a thing would happen, she would've stopped on the way and bought popcorn. Dave and Davina failed to notice the faint flash of light in Jonas' eyes, but even if Davina knew, she wouldn't care. She glanced at her watch and frowned. "Dave, can you please drive me to..." She paused realizing she had a car of her own and sighed. Waving her hand, she turned around. "I forgot I have a car of my own." Jonas, who could no longer bother about Dave, shoved the man aside and walked towards Davina. "I see you're new here. Do you mind if I show you around the station at another time?" Davina paused and turned to look at him. Then she pointed at Dave with her chin. "He already did." Jonas' smile froze and slowly he turned to look at Dave. Dave, who was massaging his neck, felt a hostile look emanating towards him, so he raised his head and stared at Jonas in surprise. Davina merely chuckled and walked into her car. Without another word, she ignited the car, stepped on the pedals and drove out. Dave, seeing it, also got back into his car and drove out leaving Jonas alone in the parking lot. Jonas stood in place as different thoughts raced through his head. A group of young men in police uniform walked towards him. A blonde placed a hand on Jonas' shoulder, drawing his attention to them. Seeing Jonas' lost expression, he raised a brow and asked. "What's up?" "The new recruit, why didn't anyone tell me about her?" Jonas asked. The men exchanged a look between themselves. The blonde replied. "You've never asked about new recruits. How should we have known?" Jonas stared at them for some seconds before waving them aside. "Nevermind." Then he walked away leaving the men behind in confusion.
