A Foe

1000 Words
After what seemed like an unfruitful week to Calister, she returned back to the station that day to hear someone had been transferred from headquarters again. She walked into the station and beckoned to one of her colleagues. "Why is there an uproar?" The man who was pretending to work, was in fact listening to the ruckus on the second floor. Hearing her, she pushed his work away and turned to her. "There's a new transfer. According to what they say, he was transferred to take over the case of the genocides." "The case of the genocides?" Calister frowned, glancing behind her. "But I already have the case ongoing with my partner, Jonas." "According to what I heard, it's either he agrees to join your squad or your squad will be disbanded if he refuses." "What is he? One of the higher-ups?! Even the higher-ups knows how important and dangerous this case is!" Calister exploded, panicked. She hadn't come because of the case, but to clean up the clues her mate had left during his fight with Dave and Davina. She had thought it'd be a simple task, but was utterly disappointed seeing he had been so reckless to get his paw prints everywhere. He probably never thought Davina would slip through his finger. As the thought came together, she facepalmed herself. The man who was opposite her, took the reaction to be disappointment for the supervisor. "There's nothing the supervisor can really do. I also think he got the order from the higher-ups." Calister waved her hands at him and walked back to her seat. Almost immediately, the noise lessened and a boy-ish face popped out from the opened elevator. Calister happened to lift her head at this moment and when it caught the man's eyes, she screamed angrily. "You!" The man smiled smugly. "Nice to meet you again, Calister." The man who Calister had talked with earlier, couldn't help leaving his mouth open in bewilderment. This...was this a person? Or an AI made with the finest materials. Calister got furious, without saying another word, she packed her things and left the station. The man however, looked at her retreating figure with amusement. After she was gone, he turned back to the crowd and blushed awkwardly. "My name is Enoch and I'd be working with this district for a while. I hope I'm welcomed, right?" Some people in the group nodded while others brushed him off and returned to their work. Not only did they feel oppressed by the man, but he also sent chills down their spines. Jonas, who had met the angry Calister outside, rushed into the building, paid no attention to Enoch and headed up to his father's office. "Dad! What are you doing! Calister and I have both devoted our time for this investigation and you just give it to a stranger without our consent!" The man blared angrily storming into his father's office. The man sat on his desk, hands clasped together and held up to his nose like though in anticipation of someone. "There's nothing I can do, Jonas. Whoever has his backing is so strong my pleas to save you two weren't heard." The older man sighed. "So every clue I found for the past one week will be thrown aside?" Jonas asked with a bitter smile. His father failed to notice the bitterness in his voice as he grew excited. Perhaps this was a way for him to finally leave this place he called a hellhole. "What did you find? Let me see." He requested eagerly. His son who had seen through him stepped backwards and waved his arms. "Forget it, Dad. All you have to pray now is for that new guy to unravel the mystery because if he doesn't this station will be in even more danger." After saying that, he walked out angrily. However, he met with Enoch who was about to knock on the supervisor's door. He recoiled his fingers and smiled at Jonas. "Hello man." The man stared slightly at him for a few seconds. "I wish you a nice stay here. And also, Calister and I have given up on the investigation. Just form your own crew and start immediately." The man's gaze lingered for a little bit more before he walked past Enoch, brushing shoulders with him in the process. ..... "So he's back?" Taylor shook his head with a light smile. In contrast to his calm countenance was Calister walking about restlessly. Seeing her father said nothing more, she couldn't help saying. "Dad, don't you think we need to do something?" Taylor paused and tilted his head to look at her. "Do something about what?" "About Enoch and Jackson." "You don't need to worry about that. Everyone's aim is Dave. Fortunately, only a few people know of his existence and what he looks like." The man consoled. "But father, Derek had left way too many clues around Davina's place. Because Jonas and I had to deal with the investigation together, there were some things I couldn't touch in his presence." The lady whined, throwing a glare to the werecat, Derek, who sat on a couch. The man stared at her nervously. Then to Taylor. He expected a harsh reprimanding from the man, but was shocked seeing him smiling broadly. "Pawprints can belong to anyone." "The smell of cats isn't!" Calister yelled angrily. The old man finally grasped her fear and sat up. It was true that cats had a lingering smell which could become offensive at some point. He looked up at Derek and Calister. "Given Enoch's cleverness, I highly doubt he wouldn't notice something. I think it's time we top our game." "Derek you've recovered fully do i will need you to keep an eye on the activities going round the city. Also keep a close eye on Tabitha Stevens. Be careful, I heard she's dangerous." "If we have Dave in our hands, every other thing will smoothly fall into place." "
