"Where's Mom?" Davina asked as she woke up the next morning.
Tabitha was right beside her playing a game on her phone. "She left."
"Left? She just got here yesterday!" Davina sulked.
"We actually woke up together, but your father called earlier to tell her something. After the call, she packed the few things she came with and left. She left a note too. For you." Tabitha replied, pointing beside her.
Davina looked down to see a post-it note on the bed and tore it off. It read: "I'm sorry honey, but I had to leave. I'd also take the opportunity to research more about the rite. When we next meet, I'll tell you a detailed analysis. Love from mom."
"Right." Tabitha sighed as she flung the paper away and got off the bed.
"Try not to feel bad." Tabitha said behind her.
Davina waved her hand and muttered loudly. "I already am."
"Oh, that's bad." Tabitha chuckled looking up at her moving self. "How about a vacation? Would it take your mind off it?"
In reply to her words was the loud bang of the bathroom's door. Tabitha chuckled and stared at her phone. It was Davina's mother.
"She really didn't take the news lightly." Because Davina was prone to hearing them, they ended the call and sent texts.
Tabitha: "I don't see her forgiving you anytime soon."
"It's for the better, I don't see myself telling her such a scary story." The woman replied.
Tabitha glanced at the top of her phone and got up from her bed. "It's almost time for me to get to work, mother."
"I actually forgot. We'd talk when you've gotten there."
"Alright, have a nice day." Tabitha replied with a blushing emoji before flinging her phone to the bed.
"Have you taken your bath?" Davina asked, walking out of the bathroom.
Tabitha nodded and moved over to the vanity table in the room before smacking her head lightly. "I totally forgot this isn't my room!"
"Wanted to remind you." Davina chuckled, she walked towards the wardrobe, pulled it open and seeing her uniform wasn't there, widened her eyes in panic. "Where did my...?"
"Calm down, it's in my wardrobe. This is your room and not mine."
"Oh." Davina breathed and felt the building rage in her subside.
Davina quickly changed back into her pyjamas before they headed to Tabitha's room. She walked straight to the wardrobe while Tabitha assumed her position at the vanity table.
"You're still gonna continue with the investigation?" Tabitha asked, with a low voice.
"Actually, I don't have a choice."
"Actually, you do. All you have to do is ask your dad for help." Tabitha retorted.
Davina stopped fiddling with her hair and glanced up at her. "Are you kidding me! There's no way I'm ever doing such!"
"Look, I know you're upset with your dad, but at a time like this, there's no other option." Tabitha sighed.
"I never asked for anyone's help, I'll do this all by myself and prove y'all wrong!" Davina screamed and stormed out of the room.
Tabitha sighed and returned her attention to the mirror. "It's just so difficult to convince her."
Davina however, stormed into the living room and snapped at the butler. "Can I get a car key?"
The man who was used to seeing her act and look gentle, was startled by her ferocious look and angry voice.
Without wasting time, he reached into his pocket and took out a bunch of keys. Davina was about to take one when she thought of something.
She smirked evilly and told the butler. "Take me to the most luxurious and costliest."
The man's eyes widened, but nonetheless, he nodded and walked out with her. The moment she drove out, Tabitha walked out of her room.
"She left with the 'most expensive'?" She asked with a chuckle and watched the man nod. "My cute little sister is too adorable."
She tsked and walked out of the house and headed for work.
Dave was already outside waiting for her. Surprisingly, she had arrived late to work today.
A flashy car drove past him and stopped a few meters away from his sight and a familiar person poked out her head. "What are you doing there, looking so abandoned?"
Dave's eyes snapped towards the direction of the car and he laughed and walked closer to it. "What happened to the cute, pink Lamborghini?"
"Come in, let's take a ride around town while I tell you." Davina chuckled.
Dave subconsciously glanced back at the station building. "What about work?"
"We're conducting an investigation, remember?"
"Oh, yeah. We can just say we left to investigate something suspicious." The man nodded in affirmation and got into the car.
"Ok, so why didn't your mom drop you off today?" The man asked, fastening his seat belt.
The thought of Tabitha claiming to be her mom really amused her, but at the same time, she refused to let it be of any bother to her.
"We had a little argument. Got upset and left in her favorite car."
"Oh." Dave muttered and glanced around the car's interior. It was indeed different from that of the Lamborghini. Unlike the Lamborghini which gave a naive, girlish feeling, it exuded a dark and gloomy aura.
"How do you feel comfortable driving this? Don't you feel scared by its interior?" The man asked.
Davina pulled the handbrake abruptly, and turned to look at him. Due to their slow speed, it was a smooth stop, but it made the people who were behind her almost crash into her.
They drove to her side and cursed at her, but Davina simply wound up and acted like everything was okay.
She stared at Dave for a few seconds before shaking her head. Something was terribly wrong. Where was the brave boy she knew back then? The brave boy who motivated her to be a detective even as they had met only once.
She extended her hand and turned his head to the other side slowly. Her eyes turned cold seeing the fur mark had become nearly invisible. Again!
