"Don't you think you're playing with fire?" Jonas asked, standing under an iroko with Calister.
The lady who was playing with a key, chuckled. "Playing with fire? If there's anyone who should be asked that, that should be you."
Jonas huffed and stared straight ahead. The day Calister had killed one of Jackson's men he felt it was a nice opportunity to know what the man was up to.
So he wore the man's clothes and walked out. Jackson had asked him if he carried out the task perfectly and he nodded.
The man had no reason to doubt his words as he knew his men always delivered. He had not seen who was in the corridor and that was a loophole Jonas had exploited.
"So what did you tell my father?" The man finally asked, suppressing the raging feeling in his chest.
"I'm interested in the case Davina and Dave had their hands on."
Jonas laughed. "Have you finally shown your true intentions? I knew from the moment I saw you that you weren't simple. Tell me, are you one of Davina's many enemies?"
Calister stopped tossing the key and looked up at him. "I'm more than an enemy."
"Do you have an idea who she is?" He sneered. The moment he set his eyes on her, he knew she was an Alpha. Although he didn't show it, he knew he had to be subservient to her.
"Davina is nothing to me. I'm heading to Davina's place. I need to have a look at the surroundings." She looked back at him. "Are you coming with me?"
"My Dad will skin me if I don't. So yes, after all I don't have a choice." The man huffed and moved forward.
Calister stared at him with a weak smile as they headed to his car. He drove stealthily to her place.
"Isn't it surprising you know where she lives? From what I heard, you're not a fan of female officers. What went wrong?" She teased.
Jonas directly opened the car's door and got down. "Quit asking stupid questions and do what you're here for."
She chuckled lightly and got out of the car. After almost a week, the news of Davina being the culprit along with the death of the family of four was gradually being thrown under the carpet.
They felt a measure of protection as none of them had died unlike before. The police had also thrown caution to the wind and decided to investigate the case fully.
They pushed back the black and yellow tapes which said 'No trespassing' and walked in.
Before touching anything, they wore gloves before touching anything, but mainly observed with their eyes.
Calister stopped somewhere and looked at the man with the side of her eyes. They were two pawprints and a little further from them was a human footprint.
She moved towards the footprint and stomped on it a little pretending to walk around.
Jonas was more curious as to why a test hadn't been done on the drops of dried blood on the ground.
He directly took out his phone to make a call but stopped as he got sight of a footprint. His vision zoomed in on the footprint as he followed it to the room. Then followed it right back to the sitting room.
His eyes clashed with that of Calister who stood in the same position.
"Do you mind moving a little?"
The woman looked up at him, then down at her foot before nodding. She had completely wiped the footprint, replacing it with hers.
Jonas simply stared at the masculine footprint which seemed to have stopped there and didn't move any further.
Just then, his eyes caught sight of two different pawprints. After examining them closely, he concluded Davina had gotten into a fight with another werewolf.
He trailed the broken things and walls till the dead family's apartment. Their lunch was still untouched but had been covered with a thin polythene.
"It seems she had a fight with someone in her Werewolf form." Calister said, standing behind him.
"I would've concluded the same thing if I didn't see a male footprint. By the way, it was said she had come along with Dave. The footprint obviously belongs to him. While hers there is no way where to be found." The man pondered.
He stared around the disorganized room and decided to conduct a test on the substance he had gathered.
"I'll be leaving for now. I have something to do." He said and walked out of the room directly.
He left the car and she couldn't help cussing that he was nothing like a gentleman. After staying there for some minutes, she sensed someone was staring at her.
She glanced around the place before pinning it on a man who stood behind the c***k. "It's inappropriate to snitch up on people you know!"
The man scoffed and walked out of the c***k. "Stop acting like a saint, Calister. Your father promised not to let you appear before Dave again. What are you doing here?" He asked, standing in front of her.
Calister rolled her eyes inadvertently as she replied nonchalantly. "I'm a detective, Ron. This station requested for me to come, so I came."
"Only a dullard will believe that." The man chuckled mockingly. "Let me just warn you, if HE knows you're in town, he'd look for a way to end you. Even if it means endangering his identity!"
Calister pursed her lips before smiling. "I understand your concerns. But at this juncture I'm afraid to tell you I'm no longer the Calister you knew back then. This is someone stronger."
"Hahahaha!" Ron laughed wildly. "If I'm not mistaken, that's the same thing your father said until he was put to shame. I'd advise you to quit whatever mission you have here because HE really isn't smiling."
Calister walked past him, back straight and poised. "If he sent you to say these words to me, go back and tell him I'm way above my former self!"
