The Duel

"Umm, Davina. Can I talk with you for a few seconds?" Jonas stopped her before she walked inside with Dave. "Ok." She replied and walked with him to a secluded area. "I really don't think it's a good idea to come to work today. Have you forgotten about the duel?" The man asked anxiously. Davina raised a brow and stared at him with cautious eyes. "What's your business with me Jonas? Do you like me or something of that sort?" The man froze upon being questioned. He shook his head seconds later and said. "I'm just looking out for you." "According to the rumors, you've never been good to newbies. In this station, females are loathed. So why do you of all people care about me?" Jonas pursed his lips as he struggled on what to say. However, Davina turned and walked towards Dave and together, the duo walked into the station. The station which was initially quiet picked up as the duo walked in. "I heard they got beaten up three days ago. I feel so sorry for them." "It's also rumored they were beaten at the scene of their investigation. It's probably the person committing all the murders. Thankfully, he didn't kill them too." Davina and Dave were yet to settle down when a senior walked towards them to announce their presence was needed in the Principal's office. "Is it just me, or are you also annoyed?" Dave asked on their way to the supervisor's office. "I bet I'm much more annoyed." Davina sighed. They stopped talking after they stopped in front of the supervisor's office and Davina knocked. The man's voice came up, probing them to walk in. "Good morning, sir." They greeted simultaneously. The supervisor who was a man in his early fifties, shot his head up. This was because of the grumpy voice he heard. He glanced at Davina and then at Dave. For all he knew, the man had always been obedient and had no cause for complaint even though he was being asked to work overtime. The elderly man directly ignored Davina, who in his words, was a very stubborn woman and an eyesore, and turned to Dave. "Are you alright?" Dave stared at him for some seconds before nodding. "Yes, I'm fine." "That's good to hear." The man breathed out a fake sigh of relief and gestured to the two seats opposite him. "You two can take a seat." Without a word, the duo sat on the seats and stared at the man with dull eyes. The man sensed something was wrong but couldn't pinpoint what it was. "Regarding the issue about Jackson Franco involvement in the case. Is it true?" The man asked. Dave was back to his confused self as he glanced at Davina. "Yeah, he met us yesterday and asked to be involved in the investigation." Davina replied. "Nonsense!" The supervisor yelled, slamming his hand on the table. "You two will contact him however way you can and tell him you want out." Davina smirked. Many would have wondered why the man was so worked up, but because she had been quite jobless in the police academy, she had always followed the news. Both past and present news were all in her head. The supervisor was a rival to Jackson Franco. In fact, they had both been assigned the task of pinning down the Golden Fur Pack, but Jackson had excluded him and gone ahead to handle the task all by himself. Thus, giving him a bad reputation. From his elevated position, he had fallen to a supervisor. It was normal to see him worked up over the issue as he feared that if the investigation was carried out successfully, Jackson would once again bask in glory. "Are you two deaf?" The older man yelled angrily. "It's not as simple as you think it is." Davina sighed. "Jackson had given us a partnership form to sign. I'm afraid he'd sue us if we dare." The man's expression grew grim as he glared at the duo. "Why wasn't I informed of this before you signed it?" "We're not obliged to tell you everything we say, or are we?" Dave snorted. The man snapped his eyes towards him and stared at him with widened eyes. He refused to say anything as he reached over and rubbed his forehead gently "Since nothing can be done about it, you're free to go." Davina shrugged and got up. Dave walked out of the door first, before she walked out, she turned to look at the supervisor. "You'd be disappointed today." The man stared at the place she previously stood in a daze. Somehow, she just knew he was plotting against him. He scoffed and returned back to what he was doing. He was very confident in Isabella. Although Davina had been praised so much by her tutors, he refused to believe such a lady with a weak body like her could actually beat Isabella who had been training ever since she was a child. "If you ask me, I'd say she's being too proud." The man scoffed. Davina returned to her table to see a red litmus paper which had the words: Duel starts in an hour. She frowned and glanced around the room. Everyone cowered their heads seeing her gaze. "What's that?" Dave who had gone to his seat saw her frown and asked. "A reminder to come for the duel." She replied and crumbled the paper. In the blink of an eye, an hour passed and it was time for the duel. Everyone was excited and at the same time, scared of what might happen. What if one of their colleagues really died before their eyes. The supervisor had assigned the training center for the duel and thanks to him, it contained almost everyone in the station. Seeing some were left out, a live stream was started for them. A ring had been placed in the middle of the room and spectators had surrounded it. Before it started, Dave walked towards Davina and said nonchalantly. "You know, if you're not comfortable with this, we can always run." Davina stared at him and smiled. "I had wanted to let her off, but why should I be the one to bear the embarrassment?" Seeing Davina wasn't still fazed, the man sighed and assured. "Don't worry, if things get out of hand, I'd run in, pick you up and run off." His words made her freeze before a doting smile found its way to her lips. "Incase that doesn't happen and I happen to win, don't forget to cheer for me." "There's no doubt about that." The man chuckled. Soon, the bell rang and the two women were called onto stage. Isabella had changed to boxing wear while Davina still had on her police uniform. "What is she treating this match like a joke! Tch! Not me waiting for Isabella to trash her!" That particular comment seemed to fuel Isabella who was already glaring at Davina. Because of her, her relationship with Jonas had become strained. The man even avoided her most times. "On the count of five, four, three, two, one." The referee said and immediately exited the stage. "Ok, what exactly is going on?" Davina's wolf voiced out seconds after seeing Isabella rushing towards them. "Just shut up and let me focus." Davina yawned and extended her open palm. Her move seemed ridiculous, but right in front of their eyes, Isabella got thrown meters away.
