SOPHIA’S POV
I opened the door to the hospital room and found Jace sitting there, his back to the door and Anita feeding Isabella some food.
“Hi,” I said, stepping in.
Jace turned first. “Sophia, how are you?”
He had a big smile on his face.
“Fine,” I replied, but my voice came out thinner than I intended.
Anita glanced back at me but her expression stayed composed. She set the bowl of food on the side table and adjusted Isabella’s blanket carefully.
“I was just making sure she eats something,” Anita said. “The doctor wants her strength to return slowly. I don’t think you should be here. It’s family time.”
“Mum, stop,” he said. “She’s family.”
