" All was well", continued the golem. " Until one day a black shadow enveloped the volcano and possessed the king. He asked all the golem citizens to bow down to the king of chaos. But when we refused he became extremely violent and attacked his own people. There was chaos everywhere, people were running for dear life. Even me and my family also ran to escape the possessed king's wraith. It was then that a huge molten rock came crashing down on us. Since me and my siblings were in it's direct way, my parents hurried to take us out of its way but accidentally got caught under it and were crushed to smithereens." The golem stopped for a second to wipe his tears. Even the prince was listening and was horrified on hearing about such a disaster.
The golem sniffed once and continued, " Me and my siblings were devastated at their death, but we couldn't stay long to give them a proper goodbye and hence clutching our griefs to ourselves we ran along with all the other fleeing citizens. On the way the crowd got so big and everyone was rushing, that accidentally my hands holding on to my big brother accidentally slipped and i got lost from them." Grendale had his hands on his mouth out of shock. He went up and put his hands on it's knee ( it was the highest he could reach considering how big the golem was) patting it with concern. The golem looked into his sympathy filled face and actually managed to smile a weak smile. It was the prince this time who asked, " wha' happened next?".
"Well, what could i do? I couldn't find them anywhere, hence seeing no other choice i somehow made my way through the crowds and reached the gates. There were huge platforms near the border gates, so i thought if i could stand there i would easily be able to spot them, but it wasn't so. Just when i was halfway through it a huge fire bat swooped down on me and carried me off. I somehow struggled, took damage but still fought it and managed to reach this forest." The golem stood up and turned around to show them the deep cuts and bruises covering his back. "I squirmed a lot at this point and slipped through its claws and fell all the way down to the forest. It was nightfall when i finally gained consciousness and saw this cave. Since the lava inside the volcano always emitted a glow within we fiery depth golems never saw darkness at all, but this forest and the cave were filled with darkness and considering that i didn't have much of a choice to spend the night i went into the cave."
"I was groping in the darkness for a place to sleep praying that no beast inhabited this cave, when my i took a step further and found the ground missing. But it was too late by then, and i fell in here." the golem finished the story. Both Grendale and the prince were dumbstruck hearing such a tragic background of the golem. Till now they had only seen him as a big stone beast and a threat but now hearing its tale, they actually felt that the poor guy had suffered more than them. Loosing one's family right when we need them the most truly breaks the person apart. It was a miracle that the golem was still sane and talking instead of loosing its mind and becoming a wild beast.
