The moment Athena and I broke through the last line of fighting, Vex finally looked at us. His smile spread slowly across his face. "So..." he called over the deafening sounds of battle. "The little wolves finally found the courage to come to me.” I didn't slow down. Magic crackled violently around my hands as Athena matched my pace beside me, golden light swirling around her fingers. "You've got one chance." I shouted over the chaos. "Give me my son.” Vex laughed. It was low. Mocking.
"Still thinking like a mother." He shook his head almost pityingly. "That has always been your greatest weakness.” "My son is not a weakness.” I growled back. "No?" His smile widened. "Everything you have done today says otherwise.” He stretched his arms lazily to either side.
