CHAPTER 29

Perhaps Ivy realised it as well, and took a timely step back. Her eyes glowed in the light of silent victory she had in her pocket. Alpha Victor and the others thought the same. Just when they were about to sit down and relax, shrugging the weight of the unnecessary confrontation off their shoulders, a cold chuckle from Ivy made them freeze again. "Yes, we are not kids anymore. We have to settle this like adults." Ivy's gaze was glued to Emma as she lifted her hands in an all too familiar gesture. "Ivy!" Luke exclaimed in disbelief. "Stop this right now. This is not -" "You don't have to apologise, because an apology won't cut it anymore." Ivy said. Her raised hands folded into the sign of the silver mane pack. Her fingers twisted stiffly, brought them to her chest and glaring at Emma, she said, "Pay with your life, Emma. Accept my challenge to a fight." The silence stretched taunt in the pack house. The maids listening in for gossip gasped among themselves at the sheer audacity of the young miss. The Silver mane pack had strict rules when it came to infighting. Small brawls were acceptable but formal challenges were not taken lightly. The hand sign has its own significance. Once used, the fight turned into a death match. Where one side has to pay with their life or with dignity by admitting a crushing defeat. Once challenged, the other side had no choice but to accept it. Because it was a high risk act, very few people have tried it in recent times. Ivy had never seen it in her eighteen years in silver mane. However, growing up in the pack house had its perks. She knew a lot more than an average person. The hand signs and rules were not a secret. All it took was a visit to the study and that memory was still alive in her mind. "Have you gone insane?!" Luke shouted over the thick silence. His roar seemed to remind everyone of the severity of the situation. Luna Doris looked at Ivy with disbelief in her eyes. She couldn't recognise the Ivy in front of her. The girl who used to get terribly upset at the thought of hurting a little animal had turned into something dangerous. "Emma, you know what you have done." Ivy warned, her tone stiff and cold. "You have to accept it. That's the rule. Pay for the life you ruined." "What do you mean?!" Luke exclaimed, his patience running out. "Where is this coming from?!" "What reason do you have to slander her like this, Ivy?" Jaxon stepped forward as he advised, "Don't be reckless. You're not in the state to be challenging anyone." Ivy knew she was being reckless. It was a conscious choice after all. If it was up to her, Ivy wouldn't have chosen to do it either. But she didn't have evidence to accuse Emma directly. None of them would believe her words without any proof. She might even get punished for telling lies. Not only would she lose her chance for her revenge, she would be playing right into Emma's plan. Ivy wasn't delusional to think she'd get a justification. She just wanted revenge at this point. Something that could take off the weight on her chest. Emma pushed herself off the sofa and wiped her teary eyes with the back of her hand. She approached Ivy under the horrified gaze of Luna Doris and Luke. "Fine." She breathed, her sorrowful eyes that were identical to Luna Doris lit up with determination. "If that's what you want. I hope this will satisfy you, Ivy." "Emma wait-" "Emma!" A loud crash drowned their voices and before Ivy knew it, Emma had already made the first move. She felt weightless as her body crashed into a wall outside the door and landed on the muddy ground. Ivy grunted as the familiar sensation of pain erupted in her body. That hit landed on her shoulder and dislocated it. With her forehead drenched in sweat, Ivy put her shoulder blade back in place with a dull c***k. "Damnit, I wasn't prepared." Ivy muttered under her breath. Emma walked out of the house in slow steps. "I don't want to fight you, Ivy. But you insist so don't underestimate me. I haven't been idle all these years." Of course Ivy knew that. Alpha Victor made sure his children were well trained for any situation. Emma did a good job hiding her strength on a daily basis. She acted weak, cried easily and said things that made others naturally want to protect her. That act made others forget that at the end of the day she was an Alpha blood and had probably trained hard for three years. "Yeah, sure." Ivy wiped her lips, smiling a bit provocatively. "You probably did not expect this when you angered grandma to her death, did you?" Emma's expression froze. "What?" "You didn't think I'd find out one day?" Ivy staggered, feeling the weight of her shattered bones one step at a time. Her lips broke into a smile, "I haven't repaid you for the three years of pain you gave me and now you added to this debt." "I don't know what you're talking about." Emma stammered nervously. Her eyes frantically looked around in case anyone heard. "Don't - AH!" That was her first mistake. Ivy took advantage of her distraction to land a heavy blow on her face. It wasn't the most fatal but it brought a flood of satisfaction to see blood spilling out of her face. Before she could recover, Ivy lifted her leg and slammed her knee into her stomach. Kicks and punches rained like storm on Emma, each catching her more offguard than the previous. For someone as frail and sickly looking as Ivy, the strength packed in every hit was unexpected. Every spot that Ivy touched erupted with a burning pain. She curled up in defence but it seemed as if Ivy could tear right through it, as if she knew exactly what Emma's next move would be and made decisive actions.
