CHAPTER 30

Ivy herself was panting but that didn't affect her movements in the slightest. It wasn't until Emma lay flat on the ground with blood trickling down the side of her face, that Ivy paused to take a breath. "Emma!" Luna Doris cried herself hoarse from yelling her daughter's name. Luke was having a hard time holding her back. Interrupting a fight once it started wasn't allowed. Not to mention it was extremely dangerous. Her frustration boiled into poison and spilled from her mouth as curses, "Ivy! How could you do this to her?! Emma is my daughter! Is this how you repay us for raising you all these years?!" "Let it end here, Ivy." Alpha Jaxon added. "What are you upset about?!" Luke yelled at her. "Come back inside and talk about it! Is it necessary to do this?!" Was it necessary? Of course it was. Ivy wasn't going to waste her time and this opportunity to make pleas only for them to brush it aside. This fight wasn't for her sake but for her grandma. Revenge couldn't be delayed. "Get up." Ivy said coldly, staring down at Emma. "It isn't over yet." Emma gasped painfully as she lifted her misty eyes at Ivy. The woman looking at her from a higher place had nothing but disgust in her shining eyes. She did it so naturally too. As if she was meant to be up there, looking down at Emma with an air of superiority. Her chest seemed to cave in from pain, but what hurt more than her body were the shattered pieces of ego digging into her very soul. Emma felt humiliated like never before. Ivy was limping around the pack house a few months ago. Her wolf wasn't able to heal anymore and Emma never saw her train either. All of that gave Emma the illusion that she had an advantage over her. However, reality hit her in the face like a truck. Emma gritted her teeth and used all her strength to get up, but her beaten body stayed in place like an unmovable mountain. Ivy's mocking smile was like salt to the wound. "Stand up. I haven't had enough yet." "I- " Emma's vision flickered between black and white. "I can't - I - It hurts - ah!" Her words ended with a cry of pain when Ivy stepped on her limp hand. Ivy didn't have anything to lose. If she was going to pay for this 'rebellious' act later, then might as well make it worth it. Ivy was always the one being bullied. Be it high school or the palace, she kept her head low and took it all. An excited heat surged through her nerves as her pulse throbbed under the skin. It was a novel feeling to have flipped the roles. "I said stand." Ivy grabbed Emma by the collar. Emma swayed weightless in Ivy's hold. Her dizzy eyes flickered around before it settled on Ivy's face. A small, mocking smile tilted on her lips. "You think it's over?" Emma slurred, her mind slightly muddled from pain. "You won't get away with this." "As if I care." Ivy scoffed as her fingers clawed their way up Emma's throat and gripped it tightly. Emma's breath caught in her throat. Her face turned a ghastly shade of blue as blood drained from it. Panic dawned on her face once death stared into her eyes. Ivy calmly tightened her grip. She didn't intend to dirty her hands by killing anyone, especially not Emma. She wanted her to have a closer look at death and feel the fear dominate her eyes. Real fear and helplessness rather than the act she liked to put on for others. Emma flailed several inches above the ground, desperately clawing at Ivy to be freed. She begged for air but all Ivy did was tighten her grip even more. The lack of oxygen brought tears to her eyes. Emma's mind was empty. Nothing mattered more than life at the moment. Revenge, ego and humiliation, nothing. "I -" Emma choked. "I give - give up -" That was all Ivy needed to hear. She let go immediately and took a step back. "Cough! Cough! Ah! Cough!" Emma fell on the ground gasping and coughing for air. Luna Doris shouted at the nearby maid as she ran towards the courtyard with tears streaming down her face, "Call the doctor! Hurry!" Luke, Jaxon and Alpha Victor followed right on her heels. They crowded around Emma as she withered in pain over the bed of green grass. Luna Doris used her trembling hand to carefully lift her daughter's top to reveal a small strip of bruised skin. It was an unnatural, ghastly shade of purple and yellow. Some parts were bruised so deeply that they could see some broken veins with their naked eyes. So horrifying that Luke couldn't look at it without his own heart ripping to shreds. Let alone Luna Doris, who saw her daughter as an extension of her own heart for the last three years. And the culprit who put Emma into such a situation had not fled at all. Ivy stood silently just a few steps away. Her eyes held no more than cold indifference. She looked at peace with the outcome. Looking at their panic, she felt like a tiny part of her had gained the right to face her grandma even if she died right now. At the very least she could let that old lady in the goddess' embrace know that she had taken out the flame in her heart to Emma and burned her a little just the way it was burning her. It still wasn't enough to drowse it, but it was better than letting that flame burn her inside out. Suddenly, her blank stare met with Luke. He mouthed, "Why?" The silent question fell without a ripple and went without an answer. Ivy could tell but she couldn't prove. So all she did was lift a shoulder in an evil shrug and chose to bear the name of a villain.
