Chapter 8

1305 Words
Lily stayed to herself and refused to have anything to do with alpha Duncan. She could not believe that he met his mate and did not tell her about it. “It is April.” She whispered to herself. She was not asking a question, so her lover did not know how to respond to her statement. “It all makes perfect sense to me now. Why didn’t you tell me?” She asked, turning her face to look at Duncan. “I did not want to add to your worries. You were already feeling insecure and would have thought she was the reason I was holding back from marking you.” Alpha Duncan explained in a frustrated voice. “Wasn’t she?” Lily hissed at him in a bitter voice. “Why would I hold back on you because of someone I already rejected?” “Really? You rejected her? Please tell me, why am I in pains right now?” Her voice was laced with different emotions, but it was the anger, frustration and accusation that tore at alpha Duncan. “I promise to make this right.” He reached out to take her hand that she was using to massage the place where he marked her, but she refused.   Alpha Duncan left the room feeling distraught. Everything Lily said was true. With his mind preoccupied, he did not notice the dirty looks he was receiving. In need of an activity to distract himself, he went to his office to attend to some paperwork. He knew he needed to document all those that were coming under him, but yet he could not concentrate. His office door opened, and Blake walked in. He looked up and then back down at the paper he was holding, wishing he would be left alone. However, his best friend was not there to leave him alone, he was there to give him a piece of his mind. “The rumour going around is that the alpha has foisted a chosen Luna on his pack, and the pack members do not want that.” Blake said in an accusing voice. He ignored how haggard his friend looked. Alpha Duncan bit down on his teeth, as he did not want to unleash his anger on Blake. Instead, he focused all his attention on the paper he was holding. His beta ignored the clenched teeth because he too was spoiling for a fight. Blake felt tired of this new Duncan. “You know I am questioning if I ever knew you. How can you reject the Luna given to this pack by the goddess herself and insist on giving us a chosen Luna? Have we not gone through enough s**t to last us a century?” “You dare question your alpha?” Duncan asked in an enraged voice. He stood up with so much force that he sent his chair flying backwards. With one swift move he had Blake pinned to the wall by the neck, and tried to unleash his full alpha aura, but Idris refused to surface. “Don’t you dare” They both pinned each other with their gaze, and after what seemed like ages alpha Duncan released the neck he had clutched in his hands. Blake looked at him with sad eyes and shook his head. “I want you to come out of your haze and look around. The pack is not regaining its strength since you returned. The people still look lifeless and that is because the pack needs its rightful Luna to help it become fruitful again. Please do not sacrifice us just to show gratitude to one female.” Blake spoke to alpha Duncan in a small, calm voice. He was hoping to reach out to the best friend that had grown up with him. When Duncan did not respond, he turned and left. The alpha sat hunched in his chair after the door closed behind his friend. There were a lot of truths to some things that have just been said, but what had him worried at the moment was the silence from Idris. It has been over twenty-four hours that alpha Duncan last felt him. He feared that marking another female has had an adverse effect on him. Thinking that the only way to make things right was to properly reject his mate, he thought it best to leave at once.            ********* April. I have been at the palace now for a couple of days and have settled in quite nicely. Everything was going on smoothly, and I was enjoying both training. There was really so much to learn about our kingdom. The king wanted to make sure we knew everything there was to know about these lands before we get sent out. Another thing I was enjoying was the physical training. Now I know why lycans are feared. My whole body still ached from having to train with one of the female warriors. She was strong, fast and fierce, and I still could not believe I was able to give her a scratch on her back. It is said that defeating a Lycan from behind was impossible because it is only by pulling out their spine that you could get them killed. That scratch had gotten my ass kicked badly, but it had also earned me a secret thumbs up from Darius. His thought brought a sad smile to my face. Ever since I found out that he had not met his mate, I have decided not to have any form of romantic involvement with him. I did not want to fall for someone and later have to give him up when his mate comes along. Darius has tried to talk me out of my decision, saying he was not sure about having a mate, seeing as he has travelled wide and never sensed her anywhere. I was so engrossed in my thoughts to the point of not paying attention to where I was going until it was too late. “Argh” “urgh” Isabel and I collided with each other. “Oh dear, are you alright?” I asked “Can you watch where you’re going, you stupid whore.” The venom in her voice took me by surprise. Her words had me rooted to the spot.  I knew something was up with her, but this encounter just confirmed it. However I was not going to be intimidated. “I could say same thing to you bitch.” I retorted. Her face grew red with rage, but I did not care. I made to walk past her, but she turned and followed me. “Being a watcher’s sister does not make you better than any other person, and do not use that to w***e your way around.” I did not bother to respond to her statement, because I have never considered myself to be better than others. In fact I have only seen Axel and his mate only once since I got here. “I just came to warn you to leave Darius alone, he is mine.” “I doubt he knows you are his mate. You should keep drenching yourself in those awful smelling perfumes you are always wearing. Perhaps one day he will pick up your scent” My words must have struck a chord, because she raised her right hand to strike me. “Don’t you ever raise your puny fist at me again, otherwise I will have it broken.” I said, as I caught her hand in mid-air.            ********* After giving Isabel a sound warning, April continued to her room and missed the look in her rival’s eyes. The eyes shooting daggers at her were filled with hatred and determination.  "This is far from over" Isabel murmured to herself.
