Mikaela followed Rose, Ryan and Max around the buildings of the school. They weren’t exactly sneaking away they walked like they owned the place. Mikaela worried a little about getting caught, but the other didn’t look like they were concerned. “Don’t look so worried, the dragon won’t see us,” she said and then looped her arm around Max’s arm. “He has special powers. He can conceal anyone who’s with him. We are invisible to the world right now.” Mikaela looked around them and she couldn’t tell if people saw them or not. “What would happen if they did catch us?” Mikaela asked. “They will expel us. We are not allowed to drink around the school premises or leave without permission,” Rose said. Mikaela nodded. She followed them to the edge of the fence on the other side of the field. She looked towards the field and there was a building blocking it. Ryan looked at her a smile pulling at his lips as he parted the hedges that were grown in front of the fence aside.   “You should have asked me before jumping over the fence. I would have told you that there is an easy way to do it,” he said smugly. Mikaela shook her head as she went through the hole in the fence. She breathed out a sigh of relief as she walked out on the other side. She was free she thought. Rose took her hand and walked her along the fence. There were a few trees here, not like the other side where the forest begun. That’s where she needed to go. “Don’t go just yet,” she said as if she was sensing her need to go there. “Don’t go home. You will leave me all lonely if you did.” She said placing her head on her shoulder. “I don’t want to be here,” she said staring ahead as they emerged along the street. Mikaela stared at the large buildings around them. They were practically in town. Ryan released a howl, listening for a few minutes. There was a responding howl a few buildings away. “Come,” Ryan said practically running towards the sound. Mikaela turned to Rose in question. “They’re fun wolves, don’t worry we hang out with them sometimes,” she said picking up the pace. They rushed across the street passing a few buildings. Ryan disappeared in through a door that was off its hinges. The building looked abandoned. There were graffiti along the wall outside. The splash of colour enticed Mikaela to leave her own mark. She hasn’t drawn on walls, but just then the need to write ‘f**k you’ to a certain Alpha King in colourful spray paint filled her. She followed Ryan into the building, with Rose and Max following closely behind. The first part of the building was semi-dark. Dust was everywhere, and Mikaela had to rub her nose to stop from sneezing. They walked deeper into the building and then there was more light, boys and girls her age were drinking and having fun. Some were skateboarding right there in the building. Ryan appeared in front of her and handed her a drink in a red cup. He clinked their cups together and smiled slyly. “What?” Mikaela took a sip of her drink and grimaced. She stared down into the cup. Ryan laughed at her. “I wondered if you could handle it,” he said taking a sip of his own drink. Mikaela shook her head, and gulped it down. “Hey slow down,” he said holding her arm. “I’m fine,” Mikaela said walking to where the drinks were. She poured herself another shot from the bottle she saw Ryan carrying from the school. Spotlights were placed around the building making for a relaxed atmosphere. Mikaela sipped her drink feeling her muscles loosen up, and warmth fill her veins. Rose came to her and started to dance even though there was no music playing. Mikaela laughed and joined her. They danced to the music they heard in their heads. She let sparks fly around them. Mikaela watched them as they explode harmlessly in the air like fireworks. For a while she forgot that she wanted to go back home. She let herself enjoy the moment. Everyone around them was having fun. Some did magic, werewolves turned into their forms and the vampires used their super speed to move from one part of the room to the other. Mikaela stared in awe, because she couldn’t do any of it. “Do you want to see my wolf?” Ryan asked her. Mikaela nodded and watched him take off her clothes right there before her. “No…no,” Mikaela said trying to stop him. She blushed as Ryan continued. “If you are a werewolf you have to get to used seeing naked bodies around. It’s nothing,” he said. Mikaela shook her head and closed her eyes. She opened them a second later and found Ryan gone. She felt something wet lip her fingers. She looked down, and there he was. Mikaela squatted down and patted the soft fur of Ryan’s wolf. He was gorgeous. He wasn’t as big as she thought he would be, but he was beautiful. He had brown fur mixed with black. “You’re gorgeous,” she said hugging his head. Ryan grumbled, pushing his head into a chest like a dog would. Mikaela laughed and continued to pat him. She played around with his wolf, until they tired. Ryan turned back to his human form, and put on his clothes. The party continued well into the night.      They danced and drank, until she felt numbness in her fingers. She stumbled as she walked back to the table to get more alcohol. “It’s time to go,” Rose said as taking her cup away. Mikaela complained but she didn’t have the coordination to fight Rose. They walked out of the building, heading to the school. Mikaela looked around her, wanting to pull away so that she didn’t return to the school, but she was too drunk to even know where she could go. They returned to the school sneaking back through the fence. Max and Ryan walked them back to their room. Rose dropped Mikaela on the bed. “Is the room spinning or is it just me?” she asked clutching the mattress trying to make it stop. “Is this the first time you had alcohol,” she asked staring down at her. Mikaela nodded and then winced, when everything quaked around her. “Here,” Rose said handing her a pill and a bottle of water. Mikaela tried to opened the lid, but it was just too much. Rose helped her and she got the pill down. “Next time I won’t let you drink this much.” Mikaela nodded. She’ll not touch any alcohol if it made her feel like this – everything was spinning around her. She closed her eyes and she then fell asleep. A few minutes later or maybe it was an hour she woke up with a start. She sat up and stared around the room. Rose was sleeping in her bed. Her eyes went to the trees out of her window. It was still dark outside. She had to go there. The feeling intensified within her, that it was hard to ignore. She got out of bed. She took one step, surprised that she wasn’t as drunk as she was before. Rose’s magic pill must have worked magic. Mikaela silently walked out of the room. She made her way to the gap in the fence. She walked along the fence, heading the opposite direction that they took with Rose earlier. The forest was silent. So silent as if the whole world was holding its breath waiting for something to happen. She walked deeper into the forest. She wasn’t sure where she was going, but she somehow knew where she was going. Darkness surrounded her. She shouldn’t have been able to see, but she sensed her way around until she came to a stop when she heard something moved in the darkness.  And then he appeared. He looked like midnight. His eyes pieced the darkness like bright orbs in the night. Mikaela held her breath, knowing without even knowing that he was the one who called her into the forest. He came closer, and she realized that he was bigger than she thought. Ryan’s wolf was nothing compared to him. He came to her hip. The wolf came closer, his muzzle nuzzled her neck where mark was. Mikaela held still. She should feel fear, but all she felt was a settling feeling deep inside her. It was odd. She brought her hands up and sank her fingers into his fur. “You’re so scary,” she said to him so softly. He grumbled low. And she could tell that he didn’t like it.  She smiled into his fur. “You should see yourself. You would feel the same too.” He nudged her with his head. “What?” Mikaela asked confused. He nudged her again, pushing her back to the trunk of a big tree behind her. She slid down, and sat on the ground. He placed his head on in her lap as he sat down. Mikaela stared down at him for a second, and then ran her fingers along his head. A contented sigh flowed out of him. They stayed there for a few hours. Before sunrise the wolf rose and started to walk towards the school. Mikaela stopped and stared at him. She didn’t want to go there. She wanted to go home. But she couldn’t tell the wolf that. She turned and walked towards the opposite direction. The wolf came to her, and gently took her hand with his mouth. Sharp teeth grazed her skin. Mikaela didn’t fight as he pulled her towards the hole in the fence. He let go and watched her walk in. Mikaela walked in and then stopped. She stared at him, and he was still there watching her. She sighed. And walked to her room. She will go when there was no wolf to stop her, she thought as she returned to room.
