Chapter 17

1210 Words
Aubrey’s POV I made breakfast and did a little cleaning in my condo. Today is the weekend and I don’t have anything else to do. I will probably be reading a book later, since I do not have any plans at all. Cassandra also visited me last night and we talked for a good few hours before she went back. Sometimes it's weird that whenever I feel scared, she somehow shows up and hangs out with me. Last night, I left my window open and I just felt so uneasy. It was as if someone was staring directly at me and it gave me goosebumps. Then, Cass showed up on my doorstep and rang the bell. Of course, I let her in. She somewhat talks weird, as if she is some royalty and sometimes she mentions living in a castle and comparing everything from here to there. But maybe that's just how she describes their Mansion. I know she is extremely rich, she just really gives off that Aura, but she really does seem familiar. I was washing my hands after cleaning the tub when my phone vibrated at the top counter. I finished what I was doing and took my phone out with me from the bathroom. I opened my phone and saw a text from James. “Hang out?” He said plainly on the text. This guy has been MIA for a few days, not replying to my messages, and now he wants to hang-out? Just like that? I rolled my eyes as if he could see me. My phone vibrated again and I opened it. My eyes widened. “Don’t roll your eyes at me, lets hangout!” - he texted again. How can he know what I just did! Ugh, somehow he just really knows me well, more than myself, apparently. “Fine, your treat.” I texted back. Well, I am going since it will be his treat and I need to catch up with him about where he's gone for a few days, given we are also both busy with college. Me and James are really close, more like brother-sister if I may say so. His mother was also very sweet to me when we were kids, up until now! I hurriedly went to my room to freshen up since I kind of smell. I wore simple jeans and a shirt. After getting ready, I checked my phone and James texted that we would meet at our usual spot- the cafe downtown. We used to go there when we were little and order their cakes and pastries, which became our favorite. We did have a joyful childhood. My phone beeped again and as soon as I opened the text, I rolled my eyes at his message. And do hurry up! - James I grabbed my purse and went outside my condo. While walking down the hallway, I saw a familiar back. He was standing tall, with his right hand on his nape, carefully brushing away strands of his back hair back and forth. He seemed to notice me and turned around slowly. "Hi," he greeted and gave me a warm smile, showing his white set of teeth. "Hi," I greeted back. "Going somewhere?" he asked and slipped his hands on his pocket... "Yeah, I am meeting a friend." I said and he nodded with my answer. The elevator reached our floor and opened. He gestured me to go inside first. A gentleman... I thought I stepped inside and he did the same. The elevator ride was quiet and in no time, we reached the ground floor without speaking. I stepped out first and he followed. "See you later," he said and bid goodbye. I just waved my hand at him and smiled. I stared at his back walking away from me and I continued to walk at a different direction. I went out of the building and waited for a couple of minutes for a cab. -- It took me a while to get on a cab since it was rush hour even on a weekend. Do people never rest? A lot of people were waiting in line for a cab. I told the driver my destination and indeed, it took another long time to get there. The downtown was filled with car horns and it was chaos! Traffic was so bad I decided to get off 4 blocks away from where I am supposed to be meeting James. I said my thanks to the driver and went my way. The smell of burning gasoline and smoke enveloped my nostrils as soon as I went out of the airconditioned cab. Ahh yes, the City life. I told reminded myself. It was way better sitting inside witht the AC fully blasting on my face but I cannot waste any more time because someone is bugging me to hurry up! Geeze what is the rush?! It was scortching hot and the streets were busy, people minding their own business, vendors out in the street. I should have brought an umbrella with me. I felt my phone vibrate on my pocket. I am pretty sure this is James tel;ling me to hurry up. He really has the shortest temper in the world. He hates waiting! Hwatever let's let him wait! Since he ghosted his half worried bestfriend! Just half, since I know he's safe, somehow. I was a block away so I hasted my pace. I am so thirsty and the heat is terrible! I feel like I could faint any minute now. Good think I can see the Cafe Store so I hurriedly went in and scanned the room for James. There I saw his smug face across the table. I walked towards him and sat on the chair and grabbed the cup of water from his side. "Hey!" he said. I just rolled my eyes at him and finished gulping the very last ounce of water. "Ahh!" I said as it refreshed my inner self. "Have some table manners, geez" he snorted. "Whatever you say Mr. Ghost! don't you dare talk to me like that. You've been gone for days! Where were you?" I said as soon as I put the glass down th etable and face him. "Missed me?" he said smirking. "Seriously, wipe that smirk off your face." I told him and looked at him with a serious face. He could feel I wasn't joking so he composed himself and placed his hand on the table and crossed his fingers. "Well, I just needed a break from reality" he casually said. My mouth dropped wide open. I was somehow expecting this but really, this man is just unbelievable. That was his explanation for being MIA for days! I could have called the police and filed a missing person report! I shook my head in disbelief. Hands up to this man right here. I heaved a sigh. "Whatever, James." I simply answered. I am lost for words. "Well I ordered our favorite!" he excitedly said and smiled widely. Somehow my heart grew excited too. The Strawberry shortcake here is delicious and to die for! partnered with their double chocolate shake is the best. We talked for a little while waiting for our dessert.
