“I know this might come as a surprise and shock to you but it is a request and you can have as much time as you want to process everything and you will tell me your decision later but as for now, let me just try and explain everything to you.” He said and Amelia nodded, they were so far done with their lunch and each one of them was sipping on their juice.

“Okay sure, go ahead, I won’t promise to help like I told you earlier but I promise to listen to you.” She said and Cullen took a deep breath before finally speaking out, he did not know how to frame it so he just went point blank.

“I have no idea how well I can put this to make you understand but I am just going to tell you point straight, I want you to be my fake girlfriend, I know it sounds stupid bit is it important to me.” He said and Amelia almost choked her drink and quickly reached for the napkin.

“Wait, what are you even asking me to do?” she asked clearly surprised and shocked at the revelation, it was not the kind of news she was expecting to hear from him, it just came as surprise and shock to her and she was just trying to recover from the shock.

“Yes, I know but forgive me for how I have put it, I just did not know how well I could have put it for you to understand but it is urgent and you are the only one who can help me right now, please.”

“Can I ask why, I mean why me, why now, and what if my sister did not ask you to take me in as an intern, what would have been your choice and why do you need a fake girlfriend anyway?” She asked.

“It is a long story but I will try and be brief, I know it is not the right thing to do but now I am desperate, your sister Chloe would kill me if she found out what I did but I think you are the perfect person for this and all I can say is that I am one lucky dude, I don’t know what I could have done if you didn’t walk into hat company but thank God you did, well fast forward, my mom was at my place today, she keeps on pressuring ,me to find myself a wife and in as much as I try telling her that I am not ready for marriage she keeps on pushing me to the very end and today morning she gave me an ultimatum, I don’t want to even think my life without her, she is like an angel to me and I wouldn’t want to make her feel bad about me, in short she wants me to get a lady to marry within two months that is before I turn thirty or she is going to disown me.” He said and Amelia nodded, encouraging him to go on.

“So, I don’t think I am going to get a woman to marry within those two months because I haven’t yet met my perfect match, but because I don’t want to lose my mom either, I am just but trying to do everything possible to make her happy , I know I will be deceiving her but for as long as she doesn’t disown me I believe that by the time she comes to realize my plan, I would have found the right woman to marry and there I will still not have failed her.” He said and to her it made sense but what still did not make sense was why choose her, there was Virginia and every other girl at the company and she was sure that Cullen was meeting different types of ladies every day, he was a well-known business man in Texas, but why choose her?

“I understand Cullen, the situation you are in right now but you still haven’t explained to me why did you choose me, I am sure you have only of friends out there who would like to do this with you plus I just got to work for you it is my first day here, don’t you think it is going to compromise everything?” she asked calmly but in as much as she was trying to act calm, her heart was racing so fast and the air between then was getting so tight, the room was getting so small and it was getting tensed by every passing minute.

“That is a hard question to answer but when I first saw you seated on that couch, there is something about you I know how well to put it but I thought you would make this and you fit every description, I don’t know about you but you are my perfect match for this, please don’t say no, it will just be for two months then we can forget that this ever happened, you don’t have to tell your sister or anyone about it, it is just going to be between us and no one else will know.” He said but Amelia was still not getting why he chose her of all the people.

“You know I get it, I get your point, you don’t have an option right now but I think you, you could have just chosen Virginia, she is your family friend I am sure your mom will be happy if you do that and just don’t involve me in any way.”

“If I felt something about her, I would have married her already, we have been friend for the longest time I can remember but I just don’t want feelings involved it is going to complicate things, so I know you won’t involve any feelings and the fact that we are like strangers to each other, I don’t think it will be hard carrying out this task, you know?”

“Yes, and what is the big deal about all of this, how I’m I going to benefit from all of this?” she asked just to be sure of what she was getting herself into.

“Not much, you just have to appear in public just to make it look more real, you will be accompanying me to some of my business deals, family meetings and parties, and it return I will be paying you, monthly upkeep of $2000 per months, you will have your own car, your own stylist and your own house, among other, but that is just to start with, listen Amelia, it is not about the money or maybe you thinking about the fact that you will be stooping so low but I promise you this, at the end of the end we will be both benefiting from this and that is the only that matters you won’t have to do something you are not comfortable with but just to appear in public as my girlfriend, that is all and to answer your question, you are my type of a woman, so it wouldn’t raise any suspicions whatsoever.”

“I don’t care about the money but if you insist then it is okay, but then I have one question for you, why don’t you just tell your mom the truth I mean she will learn to live with it, she is your mom at the end of the day and she will definitely understand your decisions, you don’t have to li on her face and use me for that matter.”

“You don’t understand that woman, my mother can never be convinced otherwise that is why I am doing this, I am not asking you to tell me your answer right now, you can go think about it and then give me your feedback whenever you are ready, but please I am begging of you, this is Cullen speaking to you and not your boss, consider my situation when you go think about this, it is important to me and you don’t have to tell your sister about it because she is definitely going to kill the both of s and I don’t think you are ready for that, so what do you think?” He asked and Amelia sighed.

“I don’t know what to say right now because I am confused as you are, I think I will need time to process this and let it not be that I am doing this or money or something, I am only going to think about it because of your kindness, you gave me this job and that is the only way I can repay you, I hope you understand, just gave me time to think about it, I will give you my feedback once I have thought about it.”

“Sure, thank you so much, you take as much time as you want, but thank you really.” He said as he hugged her and in as much as it came a s a surprise to her, she hugged him back and he smelled really good, she wished the hug could last longer but it was cut short with someone clearing their throat behind them, speaking of the devil.
