Axel’s POV
After discussing for about an hour, I and Calum decided to leave for my pack in two days instead of waiting for the next seven days. This is so that we can avoid any form of ambush, because if I know anything about my parents, they must have informed the entire pack, including neighbouring packs even. Although we are not afraid of fighting, it is best to avoid anything that can bring danger to the oracle. We went to the king to inform him of our decision, to which he agreed. He also suggested leaving in the evening of that day and travel under the cover of the night. He asked us not to inform the guards since only myself and the Prince are aware of this decision. He suggested we keep it that way, and that he will visit the oracle himself to let her know about the changed plans.
I went to the room I had called mine for several years now and laid down on my bed, my heart racing with anticipation. I thought about my parents and my little sister. Wondering what she will look like now, April had always had a soft heart while he had been the brutal one. As I was drifting off, Calum knocked on my door and opened it without waiting to be asked in. Cal, I said without opening my eyes and he sat down on my bed. We talked about the omen we have been having for about two days now. He had felt the same heaviness I felt and when we went to the oracle, she explained evil is gearing up. She told us that we will fight a formidable enemy, and that she has lost sleep for days now as she has been trying to consult with what moon goddess. She needed to know what they should do, seeing as the fourth watcher was not revealing herself.
“Axe, I think we need to get out there and sniff out this evil. We shouldn’t wait for it to muster all the power it can before confronting it.
‘you are right, that is what we will do’.
Third person’s POV
That evening, as Luna Abigail was dressing up alpha Alex was sitting on the sofa in their room when she looked at him and asked if everything was alright. Meanwhile, the alpha had decided to tell her of the suspicion about Lyann. He thought it best to let her know so that she too will be extra careful. He responded that a grave information just reached him that evening.
“Does this have anything to do with the reason Smith and Talia were at your office?” she asked.
The alpha asked her how she knew about that meeting and she replied that Lyann had been to the kitchen a little agitated, and during conversation, had asked if she knew the reason Smith and Talia were summoned. She also told him how Lyann felt, and how much she thinks she is being undervalued and her statement about leaving the pack. When she was done talking, the alpha asked her to come sit down beside him and the look in his eyes told her something serious was going on.
‘How well do you know Lyann? he asked.
“Well, I did not know her till she got together with Jack, and being that Jack was mated to my sister, made me bias towards their relationship”. Abigail answered.
Alpha Alex asked her if she trusted Lyann, to which she replied she has never given her any reason to doubt her loyalty to the pack. When she was done talking, Alpha Alex told her everything that happened. Recounting the details from when Talia saw her and Mark, their conversation, and how Talia had told Smith and he had warned Jack just in time.
The thought that they would have lost their best friend had Abigail growling with rage. Her wolf was threatening to take over and go shred that b***h. Nodding his head, the alpha told her that was his exact reaction until it was suggested to catch and question her. This will profit them more, so now they are waiting for her to make a wrong move. He also told her that Mark was also being watched, and the decoy trip Jack was setting up as a bait. Abigail asked if there was anything she could do to help this investigation, but was told to just keep an extra eye on Lyann, and to be careful with her, as no one knows why she is out for Jack.
Meanwhile, Nate has been watching Mark from the minute he left the alpha’s office and thought it odd that he had encountered Lyann three times already. Once when she was walking into the pack house, again when she was leaving. She had stopped and angrily asked them to go use their rooms, and then just now, she has walked out of the dining hall not long after arriving with her mate and again talking to Mark. This third encounter had been brief, almost like she just brushed past him and Nate would have missed it if he wasn’t specifically watching Mark.
Talia’s POV
I knocked on Eva’s door again and waited for her to ask me in, after about thirty seconds I knocked again, but a little louder and waited. Still no response, so I knocked louder for a third time and tried opening the door only to find it locked. I tried shoving the door open with my right shoulder, only for it to open and I tumbled headfirst into the room. Quickly standing up, I found Eva staring at me. She tsked and went back to her bed. I somehow felt the residue of a lingering scent, and thick smoke like she had been burning incense. What’s that smell I asked, and she looked at me with mixed reactions on her face. After a few seconds she asked what smell, and I said it’s not like anything that I can explain as I only somehow sensed the memory of a scent and smoke. It felt like someone had burnt incense here a longtime ago. She looked at me as if seeing me for the first time, and just shrugged it off, saying that she uses herbs in her bath to soothe her wolf.
Standing up from the bed she went to the wardrobe and brought out a black gown with red trimmings. After dressing up, I hurried downstairs and found people where already arriving. The luna saw me just as I was about to go back, and said she was just on her way up, so we ended up going back upstairs together. When Eva saw luna Abigail, she was suddenly the sweet angel she was earlier. They greeted, and the luna asked if she was well rested. After exchanging pleasantries, I was told by the luna to go on downstairs that she and Eva will be down shortly.
Third person’s POV
Before leaving the house Lyann was eager to see Mark. she tried contacting another wolf that she has convinced to work for her, after promising him a huge reward when everything falls into place, but was told the wolf have been assigned a duty for tonight. She had no choice than to contact Mark. She needed to act fast because she needed Jack to be killed as soon as he leaves this pack territory, or at most before crossing into the dark moon pack territory. Unable to Mind-link Mark because he has never been integrated into the pack, she searched him out as soon as she arrived. Whispering for him to meet her at their usual groove first thing, before light in the morning.
At the time all these were happening, luna Abigail was upstairs with Eva after sending Talia downstairs. She asked her about the abuse on Talia, and Eva was quick to explain that lower ranking wolves should not be allowed to disobey their betters, and they should be punished when necessary. Saying where she is coming from, such things were dealt with to avoid a repeat, and worse still encouraging others to disobey higher ranking wolves. When she was done, the luna told her that may have been obtainable in her former pack, but that the rules in her pack do not allow for abuse.
“There are other ways they can be punished. We only get physical here during training. Please, when next you are not happy with someone, or something, address it differently or bring it to my attention “.
Eva thanked her and with that they both headed downstairs, but in her heart, she was boiling with anger and thinking how much she will change things once she becomes the luna, wondering how such weak leaders were able to have the strongest pack among their kind.
Meanwhile, as all these were happening at the full moon pack, the king was meeting with the oracle at the Lycan palace. She told him the omen pointed that they leave that evening. The route they will be travelling will be through the back woods and will take them two nights to arrive at full moon pack. This means they will arrive on the morning of the third day. The king sent for Calum and Axel and told them all the oracle have said. He asked them to leave within the hour and to take just five other Lycan warriors. Saying their things will be sent to them when the oracle joins them after the dinner being hosted for Axel by the coming weekend.
The moon goddess herself asked the oracle to stay back, until after the said dinner. Some of the things she revealed where disturbing to the oracle. She had told her that war was brewing. A brutal war that will leave the land desolate. Through the eyes of the goddess, she could see a probable outcome of this terror. She saw miles and miles of wasted land, littered with decomposed bodies. She was shaken by the vision so much, that she fell down in tears for her kind. The moon goddess explained that a pink crescent moon will appear in a few months, and that the crescent moon will wax stronger and bigger till it becomes a full pink moon. This only happens once in a century. She told the oracle that this is the time the enemies are waiting to strike, because wolves will be at their strongest. After the king finished speaking with them, Axel and Calum got ready and left.
