“Miss Thompson?” a voice said from behind us and Jaden reluctantly released me. “I’m Officer McKnight. I need to ask you a few questions,” the officer said. His tone of voice was professional but gentle.
“Sure,” I said as I hesitated. I looked up at Jaden, who nodded encouragingly. The office led me inside the community center, and I was surprised to see a workstation had been set up. The sleeping bags and other personal items had all been moved to make space for the police’s setup.
