Vedant Oh god. Chiara. Something horrible has clearly happened to her. There is blood on Matthew’s shirt. Her blood. On his shirt. All at once, my shock is replaced by a torrent of rage. She didn’t have a car on the trip, which means that he had been driving. His driving put her in danger. She is here because of him. I don’t remember moving. But suddenly I’m in front of Matthew, grabbing the front of his shirt, hauling him toward me, and then throwing him against the nearest wall so hard that his head cracks against the concrete. His eyes pop comically wide as though he can’t believe it. I bare my teeth and feel Nelson reeling inside of me, furious and panicked.
