Lora looked at the finished blanket. With surprised eyes, she observed her work as the story unfolded before her. It was beautiful, dark, and chaotic. But it was always to be, and she knew nothing was to stop it now.
Looking up as her door opened, Lora folded the blanket and then smiled as Roxie came in. “Hey gorgeous.”
Roxie stood anxious as she heaved, “I was in Devil’s Horns looking out for Jasper and I haven’t seen him in two days!” Lora tried to calm her down, but Roxie shook her head and pushed her hands off.
“No, mama Lora you don’t understand, I saw him go into her place last! Him and his dad, and they haven’t come out. Instead another family of vampires went in and came out. But two were unconscious and looked badly injured. I think something happened to them.”
Lora breathed out, “Did you get close enough to see what happened?” Roxie shook her head, “Two men were guarding the house. But…I don’t know something happened to them when the family arrived.” Lora c****d an eyebrow, “What do you mean?”
Roxie shrugged, “They began to fight each other? Like trying to kill each other. I couldn’t get close without them turning their attention to me.”
Lora went into the kitchen and fixed them a kettle for some tea. “You shouldn’t interfere in this Roxie, it’s not your place.” Roxie looked at Lora surprised, “How can you say that? Jasper is Yasmine’s son! He could be hurt or dying and needing our help.”
Lora sighed, “Or he could be in the middle of finishing his mating with Alaia.” Roxie winced and then mumbled, “Well then that’s worse. Because you know what’s they do that, he’ll be trapped. She’ll turn him into one of them, and we can’t let her do that to him. Jasper…Jasper is a good guy, and I can’t see him as a vampire.”
Shaking her head, Roxie whispered, “I just can’t.”
Lora put a hand on Roxie’s head, “I know you’re still hurting about your parents. But you can’t make this decision for him. Not if he’s already made it for himself.” Roxie jumped up as she cried, “I know what he’s signed up for, he doesn’t!”
Lora put her hands-on Lora’s shoulders, “Maybe he does sweetheart.” Roxie sniffled as Lora whispered, “Have you told him how you felt?” Roxie winced since it was so obvious but nodded, “He knows. And of course, he doesn’t return them. He’d rather f**k a corpse.”
Lora lightly chided Roxie who’s eyes watered, “He can’t be dead. I don’t want that life for him.”
As the kettle screamed Lora accurately guessed, “Sweetie, I think it’s already too late.”
