Pack Challenge

Sitting in Elijah’s office, he and the alpha kept staring each other down. “I demand you apologize to my mate.” Elijah’s words made Henry grin a little, “Fine.” Raising an eyebrow at the easy agreement, Elijah frowned as Henry elaborated, “I do apologize for my approach to Camille. I was all wired on Katherine’s pain and how upset she was. I didn’t mean to hurt Camille’s feelings, but it’s not like what I said wasn’t true.” Not the mind set he wanted the wolf to go into the apology with, Elijah started to jump down Henry’s throat. Only Henry interrupted him by calmly inserting, “Listen Elijah I don’t know Camille or you very well, but I do know she was interjecting herself in my mate’s relationship with her parents when it wasn’t needed. They have their own problems and while she might be viewed as their daughter, her role has nothing to do with their grievances with Katherine. In fact, it’s now a weapon against my mate and was a wall they hid behind, so they didn’t have to heal.” Elijah was quick to point out, “Yeah a wall they chose to hide behind. Not one that built itself in between them, but one they built themselves. They used Camille’s affections to make Katherine jealous, not the other way around.” Henry sighed as he sent Elijah a look and it made the stubborn man scowl even more. “I won’t tell my mate to stay away from people she loves. She has a…complicated relationship with her birth parents and she loves the Tomsens. She wouldn’t want to abandon them.” Henry knew that and wouldn’t ask her to, but he also knew that Camille could at least be gracious enough to give them space to heal. Before he could explain that to Elijah, he was thankfully rescued by Dorian. Coming in with two knocks, the beta came in and casually interjected, “Both of you are wrong.” Throwing himself on the green velvet couch, the beta got comfortable as he groaned stretching out, “Let them figure out the happy medium of how they want their family relations to settle. Because yes Camille is like the Tomsens’ daughter and Katherine actually is, but they never had to stretch with both of them here. And now knowing what they do? I know Eloise and David are both feeling like dookie and wanting to fix things with Katherine, which could be helped with Camille pulling back some.” Frowning at his beta since he needed his best friend on his side, Dorian surprised him by saying, “I’m not saying tell her to stay away from them man. But get her to understand that Katherine and her parents are going through a hard time. It’s not perfect and right now her good relationship with them is causing negative feelings that aren’t needed. Like jealousy.” Elijah blew a defeated exhale before turning to Henry who just softly pleaded, “Katherine is use to Camille’s presence and I’m sure is accepting of it. But it’s hard and it doesn’t need to be. A little space so she can be on better terms with her parents isn’t a hard ask.” Something Elijah could understand. And if shoe was on the other foot? Elijah was sure he’d do the same thing. Nodding, he relented in his stance as he promised, “I’ll talk to her.” Nodding, Henry watched Elijah breathe out heavily before asking, “But moving on to why I wanted to see you.” He grinned, “It sounds like it, but are you staying?” Henry had been reluctant to answer that question since meeting him. Having continuously thought he’d move on after the year he had to settle ran out, Henry now had different ideas. The land he’d bought was nice and he was fixing up the cabin. It’d be a nice home worthy of Katherine when he was done. And he wanted to stay…and he wanted things to be okay for Katherine and her family again. But he also wanted things of his own. Like a title and a place to stand in pack again. “Yes. I am.” Dorian grinned over as he taunted, “And would it have anything to do with the almost side helping of Katherine you had with your breakfast?” Henry beamed staring straight ahead, “Definitely, be the way who did you get a side helping of this morning?” The beta punched him in the arm as Elijah laughed amused. Looking up suddenly when Evan came in, they all saw the tension instantly. “Hey, anyone want to go for a run?” Elijah looked at Dorian and nodded, “Take Henry to the training deck and give him to Bodhi Whistle. He’ll place him in rank.” Nodding, Dorian did so as Elijah smacked his delta on the back and went with him to the woods. It was as Henry walked into the field where the Warriors were training that he was met by Bodhi Whistle. Slightly taller, and older, the dark man with longer dreads than his braids sweated under the afternoon sun as he looked him over with a stiff, “And who are you?” Henry stared straight back unintimidated, “Henry Foy.” Bodhi introduced himself back and wondered, “And how did you end up here? Alaskan wolf.” Surprised Bodhi knew that, the hand picked up a braid quick. Holding up a bead, Henry fought not to stiffen as Bodhi snorted, “The Traven Pack. It was small and with no enemies, off the coast of Alaska and not far from a human city.” He frowned suddenly remembering he knew what had come of the pack. Shown as he contritely said, “I am sorry.” He dropped the hair and looked at Henry curiously, “How are you still here?” Henry breathed out, “I was just coming back from the center of the fight, I fought seeing the hunters in her homes, but then I was ordered to run. I went to find my sister-.” He stopped and looked away and Bodhi didn’t have to ask. No sister was found. “So you came here?” Henry nodded, “Got on a ship, had some money so I used it.” And he’d gotten away before the hunters could tear apart the human city, he was staying in. They knew some of them had survived and scattered and wanted to pick off the weak. Henry refused to give them the satisfaction of adding him to the body list. “I survived and when I got off at a port I was hearing about Alpha Elijah through some wolves. They said he was a kind but very formidable alpha who had a strong pack. It sounded ideal to be close to this pack, I was right of course.” Realizing now who he was Bodhi looked at a wolf who nodded and then turned back to Henry, “You’re the wolf who was here fighting when the hunters invaded.” The warriors having been in the general pack area fending hunters from homes, they’d been successful in keeping the body count purely on their hunter’s side. But as they stared at the stray who’d come to aid in protecting the remaining pack and keeping them out of the castle. Strays usually known for running away and leaving them to die, or hiding until it was over was the usual memo. The fact Henry had stayed and fought made Bodhi nod as he growled, “A warrior’s heart alright. Let’s see how well he fights then.” And the challenge began. Circled by large wolves that stared down at him with glowing vicious eyes, the command giving in Romanian singled for them to attack and they did no hesitation. So, Henry didn’t hesitate either and fought with indeed, a true warrior’s heart.
