Second Chance to Leave the Nest Right

Katherine met him at the door and her eyes widened, “Oh goddess protect!” She grabbed him and held him close, “Who hurt you?” He wasn’t that bad and already healing, but as she felt him up, Henry just moaned along as he breathed, “Well beautiful you are now looking at a Warrior I wolf of Heart Cove. I am to now report to Bodhi Whistle.” Grinning as she smiled at him proudly, Katherine gushed instantly, “That’s amazing Henry! I’m so proud of you!” He soaked it up like a sponge of course. As he was sat down and looked over, he was glancing around when he took in the renovations that Katherine had done while he was gone. “Whoa.” He didn’t know how he hadn’t noticed, but she’d added an entire new floor to the cabin. Now more of a home as she made the living room expand, furniture in magazines were taped to the wall. As he looked into the kitchen, he chuckled seeing she’d spaced it out as well too, as well as done away with the ugly tile and was preparing it for the wooden slacks he’d put down. “Well someone has been busy.” Katherine grinned shyly, “Yeah. Sorry, I love the cute and cozy look but if we expand our family we’ll definitely want space. And that’s not something I’d want to do then.” So, she’d saved them time and went ahead while she had the energy and nerves and put her focus into something. Five bedrooms, four bathrooms and a larger living room and kitchen later, the house needed to be furnished and decorated. But it was already coming along marvelously. “I love it darling. I can’t wait to finish it.” He kissed her and Katherine savored it as they found themselves lost and slipping again. But this time she pulled away breathless and he apologized making her giggle as she shook her head, “It’s fine. It’s not just you.” She blushed as she whispered, “We can’t help it.” Henry grinned before pushing a strand of blonde out of her eyes. Seeing the sadness and the obvious thinking she’d done, he guessed correctly, “You’re going back home?” Nodding slowly, Katherine waited for the anger. But Henry wouldn’t dare be. His parents were gone, and Katherine’s weren’t. She had time and the opportunity to fix their relationship. So, he’d cheer for it as he promised. “I get it love bug.” He kissed her head, “Your parents aren’t immortal, and I’d hate for you to miss out on making this right with them. Especially with us beginning our mating…” They would become busy with their newfound happiness and her parents would become later concerns. He couldn’t let that happen for his future children’s sake. They’d be partial pixie and might need the wisdom of their elders. Kissing his mate’s chin as she pouted, Henry whispered playfully, “I’m not going anywhere still.” She grinned and he kissed her and she moaned into the kiss. Healing from the eight or ten men he’d fought, Henry grinned as he kissed her shoulder resting his forehead on her shoulder. Making dinner one last time and watching a movie until late, Katherine wasn’t in a rush to leave and he didn’t push her out the door. Soon though it came time decide whether she was really going or would curl into him and go to sleep. But Katherine knew the longer she stayed the harder it’d be to go. And with a great reluctance, decided it was time and she’d port home. If he dropped her off, she’d cling to him and ask him to stay the night with her. Only Henry couldn’t do that. And she knew why. Getting ready to walk out the door as she held her bag, Katherine peered up at him and happily accepted the kiss. “I’ll be there in the morning to walk you to work.” Surprised by his assertive tone, Katherine grinned when he suddenly mumbled adorably sad, "I'll miss you." She kissed him good night and as Zeus nudged her knee she scratched his head, “I promise I’ll be home soon. And I’ll see you in the morning.” And with a sweet smile, she was a big ball of blue power and speed. Flying away like a rocket, Henry watched her go from the porch and his stomach sank. He knew this was for the best, but the way the silence echoed in the larger home made him regret ever telling her. When Zeus whined like he too didn’t like this decision, Henry sighed as he stroked the pups muzzle, “I know buddy. She’ll be back soon.” And when he got her back in his home? He wasn’t letting her out until she was permanently sleeping in his arms every night. Katherine had landed silently in the night. Seeing the dead vines still over the cottage, she shivered as one of them twitched the moment it felt her. Drying them out and watching them evaporate into dust, Katherine went inside and cleaned up. Food rotten and spoiled, she was airing out the place and making the bed with fresh linen when she heard, “Ka-Katherine, is that you honey?” Knowing it was her mama and feeling her fear, Katherine quickly went to the stairs, “Yes ma’am.” Seeing her daughter holding a sheet, Katherine levitated from the second floor and landed in front of her mama. “Hi.” Eloise hugged her tight, “What brings you back home?” Realizing her dad hadn’t told her mom about asking her to move back, Katherine shrugged, “Just…wasn’t ready to leave yet.” Not a whole lie or the whole truth, Katherine omitted she did want more time to fix things with her parents. Finally, with the truth out. But as she continued with her relationship with Henry, she knew moving out would make things more strained. Even with space and time Katherine was sure she’d lean into the distance and away from her parents more. Only, she didn’t want that. She wanted her mom’s hugs as the older woman kissed her head before whispering, “Well you always have a home here darling. I promise you that.” Patting her cheek gently, Eloise saw her daughter’s fridge empty and offered to bring her something if she was hungry. Thanking her, Katherine was a little nervous about going into the house. Eating a hearty soup and salad, the baked potato on the side was perfect. Just as she was finishing up, she froze as soon as she heard his voice, “Wife is something wrong?” David was confused as to why his wife was so mobile so late, but coming into the kitchen and seeing their daughter, he froze seeing her. Eloise grinned at her husband happily as she gushed, “She wanted to come home for a while before finishing her mating with Henry. Isn’t that great honey?” Katherine watched her dad fight tears, “Yeah, that’s so great. I’m so happy to see you sweetie.” He kissed her head, and Katherine didn’t respond as she just finished up dinner before seeing it was going on eleven at night. “I should go to bed. I have work in the morning.” She kissed her mama’s cheek and then as she turned to the door she stopped. Seeing her letters in the living room, all organized from the dates sent, Katherine’s stomach swooped weirdly. It had been one thing when she’d sent them at the time and thought her parents had gotten them then. But now seeing them laid out and being open, Katherine’s breath hitched, “Um…goodnight.” Eloise grinned sweetly, “Goodnight sweetie.” Turning and going to the cottage, Katherine locked it behind her and breathed out shakily. She started to summon Henry but bit her bottom lip and summoned someone else. Going to the mirror and seeing it had been used before as a portal, she fixed the glass that had once been shattered and knocked. “Hey sis…you busy?” Rocking Aiden, Camille turned as she looked at Katherine in her mirror. Smiling as Aiden gurgled and waved to her, Katherine scrunched up her face at him before looking at her sister drained. “It’s been a day.” Hearing all about it as she gave her son a bath, fed him, and put him to bed, Camille and Katherine talked until Katherine felt better. And it was when she closed her eyes settling on the decision to fix this mess, another family became a boiling pot of a mess.
