Rescuing Katherine

1842 Words
Henry had been thinking about going out for a position in pack. Now considered a lone wolf, or a skirter, his assistance with the rogue hunters had made it’s rounds. Now having shown loyalty and a willingness to go to war for them, the offer to contend for a position in rank had been offered. Wanting to take it up with Katherine first since he wasn’t sure if she even wanted to stay in Hearts Cove, Henry felt he got his answer. Feeling her devastation and pain through the bond they were still developing; Henry was upset just feeling it. Rushing to get to her side, Henry didn’t have to search for her and instead found the pixie cabin easily. Walking up the cobblestone walkway, Henry started to knock on the cute home’s door. Or break it down. Only it was as he raised his fist he felt a power he was beginning to become familiar with. Rushing around the side, he was met by a neighbor who was red in the cheeks as she stormed off from a flustered David. “Emma-.” The woman turned as she yelled back to David, “That young lady had never done nothing to deserve how she was treated! Hell, I told you then it was some bullshit what everyone was saying, and you needed to say something, but ya didn’t listen! And now look what’s happened! This is nothing but you getting karma for thinking you could prevent a young girl from growing up. You f*****g i***t, if you don’t fix this, I swear I’ll go to the council on you!” Walking off, she was gone as she cursed better than any sailor had ever hoped. Raising an eyebrow, Henry wanted to give her a round of applause, but he was left unable to. Focused now on the man paying attention to him, the pixie looked exhausted as he told Henry in a monotone, “Tell, Camille still no changes. Her mama is saying if she doesn’t come out in another day, we’ll call in our elder and some of our stronger kin.” Not understanding what he meant, Henry came closer moving between the stone wall separating their grounds from the dirt path. And what he saw made his heart sank as fear conquered him, “What the hell did you people do to her!?” The roar of a question tore from his chest as he started to the cottage behind the main home. Over a hill and surrounded by little flowers, the cute little cottage should have been adorable. But it wasn’t. Instead, it looked f*****g horrifying as it sat covered in vines, with deadly and huge thorns threateningly seemed at the ready. Protecting the house and not letting anyone close, David stopped him as he warned, “Those thorns are dangerous, and my daughter is not in her right mind. She’s not in control so those vines will kill you, friend or not.” As shown by his few bruises and cuts that were healing after he’d gotten picked up and thrown away by them himself. “Why is she inside there like this? What did you say to her!?” Aggression coming out without meaning to, the warrior was ready to tear her mate’s father apart. And it was seeing this response David grew afraid for a multitude of reasons. Seeing his mate approaching, David realized who the man in front of him was. And he shot himself in the foot as he ordered, “Get off my property. Whatever is happening with my daughter is my business. As she’s my family.” About to protest, Henry’s head jerked back sharply as David lifted his hand revealing a bright ball of blue energy. “Now.” Scoffing as he nodded, Henry made it clear he’d be back as he turned and shifted. Running back to the pack, he found Elijah and didn’t care Beta Dorian Black was there as he demanded, “I need permission to retrieve my mate. She’s being mistreated and I will not tolerate it. I know you’re not officially my alpha, but I don’t want to hurt them due to the relationship they have with your woman. But please hurry to tell them to step aside, or I will kill them.” Wolves backing away from the warrior feeling that intent and shuddered wondering who had pissed him off. Seeing him set at three hundred and ready to go to war, Elijah tried to calm him as he pulled him away and waved off the others. “Deep breaths friend. Now slowly, tell me what’s happening?” Henry was explaining how he got there and saw the cottage covered in thorn covered vines keeping others out before insisting, “I won’t leave her in that state knowing she’s only like that because of them. I can help her.” Knowing why Henry felt the urgency and trying to find a way to make this deescalate. The answer came by the beta suddenly appearing having been eavesdropping, Dorian smiled happily, “You and Katherine? That’s so great,” he gave Henry a once over, “you are her type to a tee.” Sending him a look, Elijah taunted, “Nice of you to join us fang whore.” Flipping his alpha off, Henry looked between them momentarily confused as he fought a grin. But just as the good humor slipped in, he felt the alpha female appear before he saw her. Beautiful as always, the Nubian beauty was smiling until she saw his face, “Henry-.” Ignoring her trying to salve his anger, Henry demanded, “How could you leave her there like that? She clearly needs help!” Wincing since she knew his bark was justified, Elijah was still defensive as he growled, “Hey, easy with how you talk to my mate.” Acknowledging him with a nod, Henry took a deep breath as Camille finally got a word in. “And I didn’t think she was in immediate danger Henry. If I did, I’d have told you.” Before he could protest, she was in danger, Camille interrupted the words on his chest. “Katherine locked herself in the cottage, not the opposite way around.” A scoff of disgust, “Yeah because she most likely felt unsafe. Her parents have already proven unfit when others attack her, why do I have a feeling they finally put the nail in the coffin and finally pushed my mate to the brink?” Not able to deny that since the dinner had done just that, Camille watched Henry look at Elijah furious, “I’m getting my mate tonight.” Only to whisk her away to never be seen again by tomorrow. The thought on his face as he turned to do so, it made the she-wolf act as she chased after him. “Wait!” Camille begged as she caught Henry’s arm before he could storm the Tomsens’ home with hell and fury. Though she wasn’t happy with them either, she still cared about David and Eloise. So would Katherine, as soon as the pain faded. “I know it hurts to feel her pain. But this has NOTHING to do with you.” Upset she could say that Henry was floored when Camille suddenly pointed out, “Your parents aren’t around anymore, correct?” Once he had slowly nodded, Camille kept going, “Well Katherine’s are but they aren’t getting any younger. And when it matters, she’s gonna want a relationship with them. Only if the things broken don’t get fixed now, it’s possible that your future kids will have no grandparents. Is that really what you want?” He didn’t. Of course not. So he agreed partially, “No, I don’t want them at odds or my kids to go without. But, considering they keep hurting her and letting others run over her character? I’m going to have to say that their presence in her life or our future kids’ lives does more harm than good.” Something Camille couldn’t argue with but had an excuse for, “There’s been a lot of hurt feelings and things that played into them believing-.” Henry rolled his eyes, “No Camille. Don’t excuse them letting this stupid village’s small ass opinions be the deciding factor in how they treat her. It’s disgusting.” She agreed and she also had to agree as Henry insisted, “And no matter what they think she’s done, they were still her parents and I bet they never once took her side. Instead, they used healthy teen rebellion as an excuse to help shame her with the rest of this village probably hoping it’ll break her and make her compliant.” Stuck as she found herself leaning more towards his side, Dorian was of no help as he spoke up concerned. “And I was friends with Katherine growing up and I still am.” Though he hadn’t been a good one having not spoken to her in a while. But he’d change that as he worried, “I know David and Eloise expected Katherine to be happy, but their version wasn’t her or what she wanted for herself and it only got worse as she got older. They made her feel like she wasn’t the perfect daughter they were expecting, and it crushed her.” Having heard that much last night, Camille was surprised when Dorian pointed out, “David and Eloise infantilized, coddled, spoiled, and doted on Katherine when she was the village sweetheart. When her image changed, they were embarrassed of her. That embarrassment led them to try to ignore the situation, so they didn’t see how bad it was for Katherine or how she needed someone to fight for her.” So, they’d indeed ignored her, and her pain. Feeling sick Camille tried to say, “They aren’t perfect-.” No one said they had to be though, “I’m not saying they were neglectful or low down, and for all parents she don’t have the worse set.” Dorian quickly said seeing her feeling defensive of them. “But, they aren’t the best, and they f****d up. Not only with how they treated her then, but since being home they were still acting the same to her, like she was some embarrassment who got double-handled in public. Which is so f****d up because it was never true. Any of it.” Henry looked at him, “Yeah, she told me she was hanging out with you.” Everyone watched the beta’s face change. Because hanging out was a stretch and he didn’t have an excuse as to how he and later her, ended up where they did. Dorian just knew when he was alone and confused? Someone was there. And it wasn’t his alpha who was also like a brother, his alpha female that was like a sister, or even the parents he’d tried so hard to honor.
