Charlette’s P.O.V.
“What’s the deal between you and Emanuel?” Mona asked me while putting her food tray on the bench in front of us, and sat down, looking at me with a look, saying “LET'S GOSSIP TOGETHER”.
I knew she would ask me soon because of the way Emanuel was literally glued to me in every period that we had together, not only Mona, but the whole school would be gossiping about us.
“There is nothing going on between us, Mona. You know me better than anyone else here.” I replied to her nonchalantly, but I was also confused by Emanuel’s behavior.
Asking me to copy the math problem in his copy, opening my bag and got the chemistry book out, giving me his water bottle when I thought that it was Mona.
Everything was confusing.
“He is marking his territory around you, Char. What he is doing is predatory behavior. You know that, right?” Mona said to me in a hushed tone and put some fries in her mouth.
She was acting nonchalantly, but she was serious.
I sucked in a breath, the meaning of her words sinking in my mind.
Her analysis was on the spot and I couldn’t deny it.
“You need to stay clear from him, Char. Having a crush on him is not a bad thing but being marked as a prey….. no…. it’s not happening,” she warned me, and I agreed with her.
“O yeah… I forgot to tell you something.” She suddenly pointed out and opened her phone.
I looked at her curiously while munching on my burger.
“Thunder is back.” She whispered while sliding her phone towards me.
My eyes widened in shock, and I immediately took her phone, forgetting to chew the piece of burger in my mouth.
I looked at her one more time before looking back at the screen, my heart doing a happy dance inside my chest.
Suddenly she snatched the phone, making me whine in protest.
“Hey, you.” I stopped when I saw who was standing at the end of the bench.
I groaned in annoyance and started chewing my food as if I was chewing my enemy.
“We need to talk,” Adam said to me coldly, and I looked at him with disdain.
“There is nothing to talk about, Adam. Go away. Don’t ruin my appetite,” I replied to him in disgust and faked a gag in the as if he was stinking garbage.
Now when I looked at him, I didn’t find him that handsome which could get my attention.
What went wrong with m six months ago that I agreed to be his girlfriend?
His expression immediately went ugly, and he leaned forward, putting his hands at the top of the bench.
“Now you found me disgusting, huh? What happened when you threw yourself on me?” he asked me in a taunt, his voice loud enough to get the attention of nearby benches.
I pushed the chair while standing up abruptly and put my hands right in front of his hands and looked right into his eyes while leaning towards him.
He was baffled by my demeanour but didn’t back away.
“What gave you the illusion that I threw myself on you, Adam? Am I blind, or mentally retarded?” I asked him coldly.
His eyes widened in shock as we heard a few gasps and a giggle around us.
I didn’t know to tell who giggled, right?
“I, Charlette Carter, threw myself on you, a walking sample of STD?” I asked him again, sarcasm dripping from my voice.
The gasps increased this time, but I didn’t pay attention to them.
His eyes almost popped out of their sockets in shock.
“You sleep around, thrusting your d*ck in every living creature with a hole between her legs, and you think that I would even glance at you?” I knew that there would be more rumours about me after that, but he provoked me first.
He almost crushed his teeth in a fit of rage but couldn’t find a way back to attack me.
“So, now I am this disgusting, huh? What happened when you came running out of your house whenever I called you, huh?” he asked me, and I raised my brows, faking a shock.
I raised my right hand, pointing a finger towards me, still having that shocked expression on my face.
“I? Came running out of my house (I emphasized) whenever you called me?” I asked in shock, and he smirked smugly.
“Slandering can put you at a wrong spot, you know that, right?” I asked him in shock and in mock.
“Yeah, you…. running out of your house on my call,” he replied, sounding smug.
“Any proof?” I asked him, and his expression froze.
“Everyone here knows how strict my mother is and I have a curfew. Still you are slandering me here, Adam. Show me the proof or apologize me for ruining my appetite and throwing questions at my character.” I asked him coldly while straightening my back.
He blinked dumbfounded, processing what I just asked. I took my glass of cold drink and sipped while challenging him to produce the proof.
He, suddenly, scoffed aloud, still smug, as if he had dirt on me.
“Okay… you need proof, huh?” he asked while taking his phone out, but I continued sipping my drink, waiting for him to make a fool of himself.
“Here is the proof.” He muttered aloud while opening his phone.
The corners of my mouth twitched in disdain while watching his expressions changing faster than the weather.
He continued running his finger on the screen so frantically that it would have created a good friction there.
“What the f**K? Where is fu*king my data?” he yelled in disbelief and anger, and I scoffed aloud while rolling my eyes.
“I…. I always clicked your photo whenever we went out. Where are the f*cking photos?” he yelled again, blurting out the dark secret that he had on his phone.
I couldn’t describe how much will-strength I used to contain my fury, but I tilted my head a little when I saw Natalie entering the canteen.
“Hey, Natalie. Did you hear that? He said that he clicked photos. You need to stay alert if you don’t want to be seen at any p*rn site.” I warned her mockingly, and she shot daggers through her eyes, her fists clenched tightly.
“Give up, Adam. You have nothing on me because I never went out with you,” I scolded Adam once again, and he growled at me this time.
“You… what did you do to my phone? Where is everything?” he screamed at the top of his lungs.
The next thing that I registered was Maya standing up, and stuffing her half eaten burger in Adam’s mouth, making him choke on his scream, his eyes bulged out in shock.
“Stop bursting our eardrums, Adam, and shoo away. Hey, Natalie, take your dog away or else don’t blame me if something happens to him later.” Maya yelled, clearly angry and annoyed.
Natalie was now fuming in anger; her face flushed with anger. She marched towards Adam, who was now struggling to get rid off that burger.
I was also startled by what Mona did, but I gave her a thumbs up in praise before sitting back to my chair again.
“We need to talk, Adam,” Natalie said to Adam while grabbing his hand, and before he could understand a thing, she dragged him with so much force that he almost fell to the ground, losing his footing.
The whole canteen burst into laughter, making Adam turn red in embarrassment, but Natalie didn’t stop.
She was a cheerleader captain. Of course, they have good strength because they need it to perform successful stunts during their performances.
“What a piece of s**t he is, Char. It’s good that I was always vigilant about his motives or else,” Mona muttered while glaring hard at me, leaving the sentence mid-way.
I smiled sheepishly and put my second burger on her plate as my apology to her.
"You don't know how many times I sanitized my eyes after being assaulted by what I saw in his phone. He is a psycho creep, Char. It's good that you kept your relationship with him in friend zone. He had more than fifty videos and more than 1000 photos, stored both in his phone and in his laptop," she told me in whispers, and my breath hitched.
I must have been bewitched by him that I lost my mind and agreed to be with him back then.
"You deleted everything, right?" I asked her anxiously, and she nodded, but she now had a troubled expression on her face.
"He really had nasty stuff, Char. You are really very lucky," she added further worriedly.
I gulped hard, but my gaze moved to the entrance of the canteen when I felt a cold chill running through my spine.
I blinked when my gaze met with Emanuel's cold gaze. He stayed there for a few seconds and then walked out.
"What just happened?" Mona whispered, shocked evident in her tone, but I was as confused as she was.
"What's with this hostility?" I asked her in a confused tone, and shrugged her shoulders.
"Forget it." I brushed off and concentrated on my food, but that gaze lingered at the back of my mind.
I noticed something else than coldness.
What was that?
Anger?
