Chapter 13

600 Words
Yasmyn's POV I woke up with a jolt. I took one quick look around me and I noticed that I have an audience now. The entire capital pack is here to witness my first shift. And somehow, I don't have a good feeling about this. It's like there is something at the edge of the tunnel. I have to move forward to know what that is that stands at the edge of the tunnel. I closed my eyes again and then, I felt the familiar feeling. My body feels like it's on fire but there are places I feel cold. Like a breeze on a hot day. I opened my eyes to see that it's Brendan. It's his touch that's bringing me comfort. Probably because of the mate bond that we share. I am in his arms and he is staring at me with his eyes filled with concern. The kind of eyes I thought I would see when he and I met for the first time. But it took me my first shift for him to see me that way. I don't know if this is a win or a loss. "You are going to make this, okay?" Brendan asked me. I wanted to nod but I failed miserably. I was told that the first shift is always the tough one. But no one told me that it would be this tough. I tried to keep my eyes open but the pain was too much. I still have ten more days left for my birthday. For me to be officially major and take the crown in front of everyone. But who would do all of that if I lose my life here with the first shift? I could feel my bones snapping. Like someone is pounding me with all sorts of weapons. Like someone is mending my bones to whatever shape they like. "It's okay. Just a little more," I heard Brendan's voice. It was only Brendan's face that still helped me. The heck with the mate bond. I don't like the things it is doing to me,. especially during my first shift. I couldn't feel my legs anymore. It was as if they had gone numb. And then, my entire body followed the cue. I could not feel anything. Not even the pain I felt so far. I laid there, on the cold grass, staring at the sky as it turned grey. Resembling the state that I am in at the moment. "Look at yourself," I heard Brendan's voice again. Why am I hearing only his voice when there is an entire pack around me? All their voices are like whispers in the background but it is only Brendan's voice that I hear so clearly. I looked at him. He has a wide smile on his face as he looked at me. And beside him, Adi has a smile on his face too. I tried standing up and somehow, my legs felt like they were two blocks of jello. I looked down only to see that I stood on four paws instead of two legs. And apparently, I am a red wolf. I thought that colour was almost going to extinction. "I smell Rogue," I heard a voice in my head. I have a faint idea that the wolves usually reside in the back of the head and only come forward when they are given control to. So I guess that's my wolf talking. "Rogues are enemies," my wolf said. And that was it. My wolf started running. The worst part? I don't know how to stop her.!
