CHAPTER FIVE

1710 Words
Emily's POV The colorful and lively disco lights fueled the crowds to dance vivaciously to the upbeat music. Cigarette smoke filled every nook and cranny of the Cheers Bar. Moreover, due to the noise, it was nearly impossible to hear anyone talking. And here I was, alone at the bar counter, holding a glass of wine that I hadn't finished in half an hour. I wanted to get out of here. But even before I said anything, my friends responded with a resounding "NO" it was as if they read what was on my mind. The Cheers Bar was located in the middle of the city, far from the small town of Old Wood Hill. We only used one car to get here, and I couldn't afford to pay for a taxi because it would have been expensive. Thus, I was unable to leave on my own. There were some men who approached me, asking for my name or offering me a drink, which I politely declined. They weren't persistent, except for one guy who made a scene at this bar by touching my butt, prompting me to slap his face angrily. Fortunately, he was dragged outside the bar by bouncers as he went out of control because of alcohol intoxication. The way men stared at me made me uncomfortable, and I couldn't blame them because I was dressed sexily. Even though it was a black fitted long sleeve dress, the length almost exposed my thigh, as did the backless design. Actually, this outfit was quite appropriate for this kind of place, as others were dressed even more provocatively. They were so wild that I was taken aback the moment I walked into this bar. “Emily!” I turned around when my friends shouted my name. They were panting and sweating after two hours of nonstop dancing. Their faces were pale and tense, as if they had seen the appearance of a ghost or a monster. They even pushed each other as they rushed closer to me. “What happened?” My brows furrowed. They were speaking at the same time, which added to the noise and made it difficult for me to understand what they were saying. When I followed where their fingers were pointing, I saw Felicity and Jacob at the bar's entrance. We chose this place because it was highly unlikely that we would meet the two of them here, which seemed to indicate that luck was not on our side. Nonetheless, I wouldn’t let this night be ruined. I didn’t want my friend's mood to be affected by my problem. I shrugged and looked over at the area where Felicity and Jacob were and said, "We came here to enjoy this night, right?" “Are you really okay, Emily?” Claire asked with concern in her voice. "Of course!" I smiled broadly at them, pretending that I wasn't bothered by the presence of the two horrible humans, but deep inside me, my insecurities were slowly devouring me. Felicity was so stunning that almost all the men at this bar turned their heads to her. The way she walked showed her overflowing confidence. And I was among those women who cast her an envious glance. Oh s**t! When I finally noticed Felicity's outfit as she stood up in the center of the lights, it felt like a grenade had been blasted through my body. How I wish I could be swallowed by the ground right now! What a shame she wore the same dress as mine, making me feel like a struggling starlet while she appeared to be a classy high-paid model. “I’m so sorry, Emily. I don’t know that she will wear the same dress that I lent you,” Tara said, teary-eyed. Her reaction showed sincerity. Tara was also known as a socialite at our university and was a threat to Felicity’s popularity. However, the latter was so arrogant and narcissistic. My friend, on the other hand, knew how to stay humble. "But who is more beautiful between me and Felicity?" I asked, raising my fist to them. There would be a flying fist for sure if somebody gave me the wrong answer. "Of course, you!" their voices echoed inside the bar as they collectively answered, drawing the attention of the people, including the two horrible humans. Yeah, that was what we secretly called Felicity and Jacob. I gave my friends a high-five, unbothered by Felicity's irritated expression when she saw us. “Y’all are truly my friends! Let’s drink!” Tara ordered more drinks for us as she was the one who promised to shoulder all the bill. She was born into a wealthy family, so any amount of money we spent here would be like pennies to her. The concern on my friend’s face was evident, as they were now requesting to go home even if it meant cutting off their fun. They knew that I was just acting strong. But now was the time to face the truth and teach myself to accept Jacob and Felicity's relationship. I also wanted to show my cheating ex-boyfriend how easily he could be forgotten. I had lost count of how many times I winced every time I emptied a wine glass in one shot. As my tongue got used to the bitter aftertaste, I felt as though I was drinking water instead. It was our first time drinking an intoxicating wine with no limits. Before we knew it, we were wildly dancing to rock music and owning the disco floor. I even dared myself to cling to the man's neck while swaying my hips seductively as I let go of all of my inhibitions. Even though I was already feeling lightheaded and my vision had doubled, I had consumed all of the wine that the strangers had offered me. When I felt like throwing up, I pushed them away. I hadn't gone more than two steps when someone pulled my hand and dragged me out into the crowd. Jacob! My heart pounded so badly that it nearly deafened me. We were heading to the back door exit. When we finally got outside, he let go of my hand. His face darkened, indicating anger. There was no one around, and the area was surrounded by garbage bags. I tried to escape as he pinned me against the wall, but his arms were like steel bars. It didn’t budge even a bit. “What are you doing, Emily?!” he exclaimed. “What I am doing is none of your business anymore, Jacob!” “Are you aware that you looked like a w***e!” he asked, looking at me from head to toe and shaking his head as if he was seeing something disgusting. “Why do you care!” I shouted back while shoving him away. “Go back to your Felicity!” Jacob let out a deep sigh."I know what I've done is wrong, but I don't want you to ruin your life," he said calmly now. “I am just having fun!” “Fun? You are behaving like a slut out there!” “Like I said, it’s none of your business!” “It's still my business!” I looked straight into his eyes. “Why? Is it because you still love me?” We stared at each other and no one wanted to break it. A glimpse of hope arose in my heart as I could see in his eyes that he still cared for me. Tell me you still love me, and I'll forget what you've done, Jacob. I am willing to accept you! “Jacob! Jacob!” He was the one who broke our gaze when we heard Felicity's voice calling out his name. Just as his new girlfriend appeared in front of us, he already had his composure. "What are you two doing here?" Felicity demanded, her angry face threatening to scratch my face at any moment. "Nothing, babe,” Jacob answered as he held her elbow. She pushed him away before turning to face me. “Are you flirting with my boyfriend?” “The audacity!” I muttered sarcastically while folding my hands around my chest and giving her a crazy smile. “What do you say?!” I replied calmly, "You heard me, right? So, I don't need to repeat it to you," I didn't want to act like her, whose blood was boiling with rage, as I could see from the way she was breathing. "Do you want to win her, Jacob?!" she asked, almost screaming. “No! It’s like that, babe! You’re my life now!” “Then why are you here with her?” "I'm not sure what her intention was, but she actually dragged me here!" What I heard made my eyes widen in disbelief. How could he be able to fabricate a lie without batting an eye? I wanted to slap him, but my feet were nailed to where I was standing. My body trembled in anger, yet I couldn't take even one step. “Do you hear that, Emily?” Felicity asked me mockingly. “Y-you’re a liar, Jacob!” I rasped. My tears were relentlessly flowing no matter how I tried to stop them. “Don’t you dare fight against me, you will never win. Bye, Emily!” Jacob stayed even though Felicity had already walked away. His mouth opened several times, but he couldn’t speak a single word. All I could get was a deep breath from him. “I'm sorry, Emily, but Felicity can give me what I long for from you.” “s*x?” I finally found my voice. He nodded. I grinned bitterly and gave him a scornful look. “You'll see, Jacob, how simple it is for me to give my virginity to a complete stranger tonight.” “Emily!” “Yes, I can do that!” “Are you out of your mind?” he grabbed my arm and squeezed it with his hand. "What are you doing there?" Felicity yelled from a distance of a few meters. He warned, "Don't you dare do that," and then he followed Felicity. "Of course I will! You'll see, Jacob!"
