12. The Bargain

“What do you mean?” I asked Redrick. He would not have asked me to sleep with him for a favor. Even though I would if I had to. Not a big deal, but he didn’t seem like that type. He could have just asked if he was that interested. “What I need you to do is take over my shift for the rest of the night here,” he responded. “Seriously? Are you joking? You don’t even know what I was asking you to do.” “Listen, I have a boyfriend, hot and ready for me at home. It’s an important date that I forgot about until today. I want to make him happy tonight,” he told me. “Also, I know about that human you are looking for. “What? How did you know? Is there a special bond between the clubs around here?” “I work here with people, vampires, and humans, letting people in, kicking them out. So I know a thing or two about this.” He gave me a wink. It still all seemed very suspicious to me. “Why do you even do this? Couldn’t you find some other way to spend your time?” “What do you mean? I love this! I own part of this bar. The schedule is flexible most of the time. I want to make sure things run well, that our kind enjoys coming here, and there is no lousy rep, so the supply of humans never withers. I mean, come to think of it, I don’t have to be here, but I do like being here, except….” “Today,” I finished for him. “I will do it, but only after you help me.” I glared at him, still a bit surprised. I wanted to get it. I needed it. He looked at me, questioning. I saw a hint of laughter in his eyes for a split second. Then it was gone. “Move your phone closer to mine,” he requested. In a split second, I put my phone next to his. “Don’t forget to enable AirDrop,” he added. I saw the permission pop up to install the app for managing patrons. My heart would have skipped a few beats if I had one. I needed that app! He explained how to scan human barcodes generated by their app and check their IDs. That they were who they claimed to be. It was not too bad. He stayed to monitor me, scanning a few humans. More humans appear to be coming in than vampires. One girl walked in skinny jeans with fire embroidery, and a leather top corset. She said she had forgotten her phone. “If we want to be friendly, we can find her in our system. Or we can send her away. But let’s be nice for once.” Redrick showed me how to look her up. We found three girls with the same name. When we clicked on the one that looked like her picture, a big red all capital BANNED sticker appeared on the screen. “So you see, most of the time, they forget the phone,” he told me. “Yes, I understand.” I chuckled this time, annoyed. “Please leave and don’t come back,” I commanded her. But she started throwing a fit and yelling at us. It was rather comical, so we just watched her for a bit. Eventually, she launched at Redrick, attempting to scratch him with her nail. Unfortunately for her, she could not match our speed. I caught her and held her hands behind her body. She tried to wiggle but could not get out of my grip. “f**k yourselves, bloodsuckers,” she screamed. “You can’t even bite a human properly!” “Remember, she wants to be bitten,” Redrick told me. “So don’t!” “Can I glamour her?” I was not sure how they dealt with banned humans, except for being escorted from the premises. “Well, it’s not that simple. She is punished, which should remain that way. She should not forget that.” The b***h kept trying to pull out of my grip, getting on my nerves.” “Can you hold her for a minute?” I asked Redrick. He grabbed her immediately and turned her to face me. “You will crawl on all fours until you calm the f** down,” I told her. Redrick let her go, and she instantly got on her hands and feet. She wanted to attack us, but she was still human, too slow to do anything, especially in the position she was in. I just moved to the side every time she jumped. She even hit the wall a few times and got a bit of blood on her face. I could smell her substance teasing me, but I could not give her the satisfaction of my bite. I also was not sure I would actually stop myself until she was fully dry. She struggled to get up multiple times but could not. She started whimpering and yelling more, spitting profanities, until she was so exhausted she lay on the floor. Few humans passed through the Redrick check while I was dealing with her. He told them that they saw nothing. Didn’t want to spoil the memories of his club. The banned girl finally promised to behave, so I allowed her to get on her feet and leave. “You were banned only for this week, but now I have placed you on a yearly ban,” Redrick told her. I thought she was already banned for life, and now she only gets a year. Why was Silvia so strict with my human? I had to find out even though I would have to face her again, and listen to her lecture. The human turned as if she wanted to say something. But when she saw my mouth opening, she turned again and almost ran out. “That was more than I would have done. Although it took too long, maybe next time you will carry them off the premises immediately, as we always do. See you in the morning,” Redrick said to me, as he was also leaving. “Morning, sounds good,” I replied. I couldn’t wait until he left to get into the app. “I will pay you back then, but make sure this place is still in one piece, and don’t leave the post except for kicking humans out. Keep the door locked.” He threw me a magnetic key in the form of a red V letter as he was leaving. “Sure, sure!” I tried to appear not very excited. “You cannot scroll through banned people or do any sort of search without me here, though. You only have permission to scan and search by their name.” He turned to look at me on his way out and saw my contorted face. He winked at me and walked up the stairs. Now I was left with nothing, stuck with this stupid job for the night and had to wait for his return.
