Freya’s pov
“Did anything interesting happen?” Dad asked me, and I looked up at him.
“Why are you asking? I told everything that happened last night.” I said, and he looked at me.
“You keep smiling to yourself, so I just thought that maybe something good happened.” He explained, and I shook my head.
“Nothing, I am just happy that we will finally be able to avenge our mother.” I explained, and he nodded.
“I will also see if I can’t find any cases related to wolf attacks at the office.” He said, and I nodded.
There wasn’t much to talk about after that, so I went straight to school.
Andrew has decided to play a game with me.
Well, I started this game anyway, so it makes sense that he would also want to play along.
That stupid act he pulled last night, talking about how he was trying a new pick-up line. Who did he think he would be able to fool with such an obvious lie?
Actually, I am almost a little offended that he thought that he could fool me. I actually think that I look like I am smart, which I am. So someone insulting my intelligence to my face tends to rile me up just a bit.
I got out of my car and as I was getting out, I found Mary and Ashley waiting for me already.
“Come on,” Mary said as she held my hand, and I could see that Ashley didn’t like it one bit.
“You look amazing today. I love what you did with your hair.” I said and watched how she smiled at this.
“Thank you, I was just trying something new.” She said with a small blush on her face.
“Is there someone you are hoping to impress? Maybe a certain boy with green eyes?” I asked her. I watched how her cheeks became as red as her hair as she blushed even further.
“Mary, the teacher is calling you,” a girl said, catching Mary’s attention.
She walked off, leaving me and Ashley alone.
“You know I can see right through you. I can see how you are trying to replace me.” She said with a frown. I looked at her, confused, and then shook my head.
“I would never want to replace you. I am not your enemy, Ashley.” I explained, and she rolled her eyes.
“As far as I am concerned, you are enemy number one,” she said, and I nodded at this.
“Fine then, but I do have a question for you. Which one do you think will benefit you the most? Being my enemy or being my friend?” I asked her and watched how she looked at me, confused.
“You basically grew up with Niall, he doesn’t view you as a girl. Let alone a woman he would even be interested in. But, what if someone just drops subtle hints his way about your beauty?” I asked her and watched how her eyes widened.
“I don’t know what you are talking about,” she said, and I rolled my eyes at this.
“It’s obvious that you like him, and it’s obvious that he doesn’t even see you.” I said, and watched as she nodded.
“That is what you will do to me if I am your friend, but what if I am your enemy?” She asked me, and I thought about it.
“I will date the boy you have loved all your life. Take away the one friend you have in the whole world. I will bring your entire world crushing down.” I answered.
“You act all innocent, but you are nothing but a b***h aren’t you?” She asked me with a smile.
“The two of you aren’t saints either. That is why I want us to become friends.” I answered, and she looked around and then back at me.
“Can you really help me get Niall?” She asked me, and I nodded.
“What are friends for?” I asked her and watched as she held out her hand.
I put my hand on hers and watched how she smiled at this.
Self-serving bitches, I would know because I am one of them. As long as she gets something that she wants, then she is happy.
I looked at her, Ashley is like a dog that barks but never really bites. All she does is talk, if she has any guts then she would have confessed to Niall a long time ago. But still, I would rather have her as an ally than an enemy.
I attended my classes and after that we were asked to go to the baseball field.
It was the day when we chose mandatory community service because it looked good on our college applications.
Everyone in our grade was standing there waiting to see where they would volunteer.
One teacher came and told us about all the places we can choose to volunteer. The hospital, The Mayor’s office, The town’s park, The town’s garden, which is used to house the poor, or the town’s very own mental asylum.
Oh yes, there is also the organization crew, these are the people who help plan the city’s events.
“He will obviously choose the nut house,” Mary said with a giggle.
I looked at her, confused, and then my eyes landed on a guy who was already writing down his name to volunteer at a mental asylum.
Honestly, it isn’t a place I would choose myself, so why is he?
“Why is it obvious?” I asked her, and she just shrugged.
“His grandfather is locked up in there,” Mary answered.
“Yes, a few years ago, he said something about seeing a monster kill a woman. And on top of that, he went on to say that the monster turned into a person.” Ashley said, shaking her head.
I froze in my spot. Did she just say that a few years ago?
“When exactly was this?” I asked them, and they thought about it.
“To be more accurate, it was about 8 years ago. There is a house just a little on that side,” Niall said as he came to my side.
“We are choosing the organizing team right?” he asked us, and Mary nodded.
Could they be talking about my mother?
It can’t be a coincidence right
I looked at the boy, and it’s a risk I am willing to take.
“Actually, I think I will choose the mental asylum,” I said, and everyone looked at me, shocked.
“What? Why?” Mary asked me, and I just shrugged.
“I think I will have fun stories to write on my university application. Imagine all the study material they can provide. What’s the best way to learn psychology?” I asked them. They all nodded as if they understood my point.
“You guys don’t have to join me at all. I will do it alone,” I said, and they all nodded.
They walked to sign up, and I also walked to my side to sign up.
When I was done, I turned around, and right behind me was Andrew. He took the pen from my hand and then wrote down his name.
“This will be fun, right, Freya?” He asked me, and I smiled.
What’s fun about finding out about my mother’s killer?
