Freya’s pov
“I also want to sign up here,” Mary said as she walked towards us.
“You have already signed up for the organization team. You can’t change your mind,” a teacher said.
She looked at me, and I could see she was regretting her life choices. Actually, if she is part of this team, maybe she will keep Alpha Prince Jerk ass busy for me.
“Come on, Ma’am, just make an exception this one time. The Organization team has a lot of people already.” I pleaded with her.
“Yes, actually, I think I will also join their group as well,” Niall said, looking at me.
“And I will join as well,” Ashley said, her eyes on Niall.
Well, this bunch should be enough to keep him busy.
“No, you can’t all change your mind like this,” the teacher said. “The rules are rules, I won’t change them for anyone,” the teacher added firmly, and I smiled at this.
“Well, last time I checked, there are no rules against joining two groups.” I pointed out and watched how Mary’s face lit up.
“I will also sign up for the Organization team as well, and they can also join me on this one.” I said as I wrote down my name on the other team.
And again, when I turned around, Andrew took my pen from me. He wrote down his name as well while the other were writing their name on that group.
I found myself smiling at this.
Andrew doesn’t realize this, but he helped me a lot.
I was worried that doing volunteer work different from the others would alienate me from them. But now, we get to spend hours and hours together. Is this what they call two birds, one stone?
I will get into that asylum and learn what that old man saw, and also cement my friendship with the wolves.
“Well, we usually come here as a courtesy since students never sign up. But this year we got seven students. I never thought we would have so much luck.” An old-looking man said as he walked in.
“Hello, I am Dr Bennett,” the old man said with a smile as he looked around at us. He is human.
One thing I have failed to mention is that hunters can tell the difference between humans and werewolves.
Hell, the aura of supernatural beings stands out to us so we can easily tell if someone is human or not.
But there is something about his aura that I don’t like at all.
My eyes landed on Andrew, and I could tell without asking that he felt the same.
I looked around, and everyone else seemed clueless about this.
Andrew’s eyes landed on me, and he then looked at Dr Bennett.
I hate that he is obviously very smart and observant. In the same way, I could tell that he knew something was off with this doctor he also could tell the same.
Huh, I think I get why the moon goddess thought we would be a great couple.
If only the moon goddess had protected my mother that night, then maybe.
What the hell am I thinking?
What has happened has happened.
I hate werewolves, and he hates humans.
The moon goddess has made a mistake in our case, and there is nothing else to it.
“Okay, that is it for today. You should all go to the places where you will be volunteering so you can take a tour and learn your responsibilities.” The teacher said.
“Good, please follow me to the hospital,” Dr Bennett said, and we all followed behind.
“A few of you can ride with me. I will drive you back as well. You don’t all have to take your cars,” he said, and I nodded.
“David, you are coming with me, right?” the doctor asked, and the boy David nodded.
He is the one whose grandfather might have an idea of what is going on.
“Actually, I would also love to ride with you, too, doctor,” I said with the best smile I could master.
“Well, I would also like that,” the doctor said, smiling back.
“I don’t feel like driving. I will also come with you,” Andrew said, and I resisted the urge to roll my eyes.
“I will come with you guys too,” Mary said, and the doctor shook his head.
“I drive a small car; only four people can fit in,” he explained.
I looked at Mary, and she was begging me to go in the other car with her eyes.
What do I do? Do I move cars and be in Mary’s good graces? Or do I use this chance to get closer to David?
What to do?
Which one is more important?
I felt Andrew’s gaze on me, and I knew if I moved, he would do the same. Mary would hate me more if she realized Andrew’s interest in me. She will think that he is interested in me romantically, and I might lose her friendship.
I smiled at her and then walked towards her to whisper in her ear.
It was pointless since almost everyone here has werewolf hearing, but that was the idea.
“Do you want me to move cars so you can sit in the same car with Andrew?" I whispered in her ear. I then put on my best fake innocent after this.
“No, I don’t want you to do that. I will ride with Niall and the others.” She said, her entire face turning red.
I turned around and found Andrew looking at me with a smirk. It was like he could see through this little plan of mine.
“Okay then, it’s settled,” Dr Bennett said, and I leaned closer to Mary.
“Are you sure?” I asked her, and she chuckled nervously.
“Yes, I am very sure,” she said, and I nodded and walked towards Dr Bennett’s car.
I sat at the back, and as David was about to join me, he was suddenly pushed out, and Andrew joined me at the back.
“Please sit in front,” he said politely as if he didn’t just shove the poor guy away.
David did just that, and I had to hide my frown at this.
“Can I ask you guys and a beautiful lady what made you choose to volunteer at such a place?” Dr Bennett asked us.
“Well, my grandfather is there. I visit him there every single week, so I just thought that it would be good to learn a way I can communicate with him.” David answered.
How noble, Andrew’s eyes landed on me, and I smiled at this.
“Well, I have always been fascinated by such things. Dr Frankenstein, Dr Jekyll, and Mr Hyde,” I answered.
“Okay, how about you, young man? Were you also fascinated?” Dr Bennett asked, and Andrew nodded with a smile.
“Yes, I just found something interesting, and I intend to figure it out.” He answered, his eyes on me.
“Sounds like you guys are going to be a fun crew to have around.” Dr Bennett said with a laugh.
Well, the ones who are in this car are surely interesting, but the ones in the other car are pitiful. All the volunteer just so they could be closer to their crushes.
But now that I think about it, those are problems normal teenagers should have.
They are werewolves, but it turns out they have a much more normal life than I do.
Is that what people call irony?
